Tramway Stakes Tips & Predictions 2026: Best Bets

We have Tramway Stakes tips and predictions for the Group 2 1400m race at Randwick on Saturday.

Tramway Stakes odds present a quality field for punters, where some spring superstars are in action.

Best Bet
#7 Idle Flyer @ $2.60

We liked the way Idle Flyer picked up in the second half of the Winx Stakes, which suggests she’ll be tough to beat in the Tramway Stakes.

The 5YO mare is a daughter of Dundeel, so the trip suits, and her unbeaten second-up record speaks for itself. She has yet to lose second-up from four attempts, so she was always going to improve with a run.

Despite being the $2.70 favourite, we feel there is some trepidation with punters. At that price, she is worth having on in your Tramway Stakes predictions, and the late money could come thick and fast on race day.

Open Race time:
7. Idle Flyer (2)
J: Zac Lloyd 56kg

Second run back. First-up after four months 6th of 11 in the G1 Winx Stakes at this track on August 22 over 1400m, slow going 4.5 len behind Autumn Glow carrying 57kg at $31. Previously second-up won by 0.7 len in the G2 Emancipation Stakes at Rosehill on March 28 over 1500m in soft going defeating Blindedbythelight with 56kg at $1.90. Undefeated second up and can race a touch closer here, hard to stop.

Next Best
#5 Private Eye @ $3.80

Private Eye is a rock-solid gelding, and it’s not hard to see why he is being well-backed with Tramway Stakes odds 2026.

He is a winner of over $12 million, and his second placing behind Cosmic Crusader at Caulfield last start is an excellent form guide. That form has been franked in Melbourne, and coming to Sydney isn’t a worry.

Some of his best wins have come at Randwick, where he boasts three wins and seven placings, and his second-up record is also impressive. It’s tough to rule him out based on statistics, so he’s always a good addition to picks.

We wouldn’t be shocked if he firmed into favouritism. The market is holding steady with the two favourites, but Private Eye is a fancied runner, and his maturity could be enough to sway punters into his corner.

Randwick R7 – Myplates Tramway Stakes (G2)
Open Race time:
5. Private Eye (8)
J: Nash Rawiller 57kg
365×2T: Joseph Pride
Second run back. First-up after two months sat on the speed and boxed on steadily 2nd of 11 in the G2 PB Lawrence Stakes at Caulfield on August 15 over 1400m, on a slow track; 0.8 len behind Cosmic Crusader carrying 59kg at $3.40. Previously second-up 6th of 16 in the G1 Kingsford Smith Cup at Eagle Farm on May 30 over 1300m, on a slow track; 1.2 len behind Headley Grange carrying 59kg at $13. Will slide across from the wide draw and go close.

Best Roughie
#8 Panova @ $20.00

Getting $17 for a runner trained by Chris Waller and ridden by James McDonald is rarely seen, so Panova enters our Tramway Stakes tips.

She doesn’t have as much experience as many runners in this field, with only 10 starts for three wins, but Waller has a big opinion of her, and the penny could drop during the Sydney Spring Carnival.

She got the better of a good field at Morphettville last season before placing behind Fireball Miss in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks. Now, it’s not easy to win over 1400m fresh-up, but she can find form quickly.

Include her in picks at $17, and she can add value to same-race multi bets at that price.

Randwick R7 – Myplates Tramway Stakes (G2)
Open Race time:
8. Panova (6)
J: James McDonald 56kg
5712xT: Chris Waller
Resuming. Finished off last campaign second of 18 at Eagle Farm in the G1 Qld Oaks June 6 over 2200m, 1.3 len behind Fireball Miss with 56.5kg at $4. First up last campaign sixth of 8 at this track in the G1 Surround February 28 over 1400m, soft track; 6 len behind Tempted with 56kg at $18. Will find this short of her best.

Same Race Multi

Punters get value odds with our Tramway Stakes SRM, which includes our three selected runners.

We have Idle Flyer Top 2, Private Eye Top 3, and Panova Top 5, and punters get $5.10 for our three-runner SRM.

We’re going with a shorter odds multi for this race. There are numerous winning chances, including Headley Grange, so we’re keeping it easy with the two favourites and our roughie hope in Panova to finish in the Top 5.
