We have Scarborough Stakes tips and predictions for the Group 3 1200m race at Caulfield on Sunday.
Scarborough Stakes odds have an even field framed, but two runners have been best-backed to win.
Punters will need to take CHAYAN (10) on trust after finishing eighth last start, but the form out of that race has stacked up very well. It was won by Bangkok Hottie, who has since won again, and Chayan was only 2.9 lengths behind.
The 3YO filly comes out of some tough age-group races, and although there are some smart types racing in the Scarborough Stakes, it’s the easiest field she has faced recently, which bodes well.
Barrier 10 doesn’t help her chances of winning, and it’s a tricky draw over 1200m at Caulfield. However, she gets James McDonald in the saddle, and that could be enough to see her land the prize.
Our Scarborough Stakes tips are happy to include her in picks at the current odds, which could firm on race day.
2. Chayan (9) J: James McDonald 56kg 718×8 T: Annabel & Rob Archibald
Our Scarborough Stakes predictions include OVER THE BRIDGE (7) so we’re not looking too far past the current favourite.
The Ciaron Maher-trained filly makes the rise in class after winning impressively on debut at Bendigo by two lengths, and she looked to have more in the tank, which could be a sign of things to come.
We’re happy to see money come for her since markets opened. She was put up at $3.90 before being backed early, and despite having a lack of experience, her raw talent could be enough to beat this field.
Late betting moves will be telling with Scarborough Stakes odds, and Over the Bridge is a runner punters must keep their eyes on.
12. Over The Bridge (6) J: Mark Zahra 56kg 1 T: Ciaron Maher
SIMPLY STEFFI (3) was a good thing beaten last start at Sandown when getting blocked for a run, and she hasn’t been found in betting markets for this race.
That was only a BM66 race, so the level of racing wasn’t strong, but she’s just as good as the second favourite based on their career wins, and punters get much longer odds for the Clinton McDonald runner.
Barrier 3 should see her land in a good spot with Ben Melham riding, and she has experience in group races, so we believe the $31 odds are way too high for a filly with loads of upside.
She is one of our best roughie bets this weekend.
11. Simply Steffi (2) J: Ben Melham 56kg x15x6 T: Clinton McDonald
Punters get value odds with our Scarborough Stakes SRM, which includes our three selected runners.
- Top 2 – No. 2 Chayan
- Top 3 – No. 12 Over The Bridge
- Top 5 – No. 11 Simply Steffi
We have Chayan Top 2, Over the Bridge Top 3, and Simply Steffi Top 5, which pays $13.00 for our three-runner SRM.
The $3.10 for Simply Steffi to run in the Top 5 gives our SRM a huge boost, and that’s one of the best bets in the race. There is a lot of value in this race, so include it in your Scarborough Stakes tips.
