Doomben is the focus this Wednesday, with seven races to assess in our Doomben Preview.
The track sits at Soft 5. A clearing shower should pass before mostly sunny weather arrives on race day.
The rail is out 8m, a position that traditionally favours on-pace runners. The speed map and early positioning will matter. The opening races should show how the track is playing.
Our race analysis covers the key runners, main winning chances and betting opportunities across the card. Let’s work through the Doomben program.
Fresh off their Weetwood win, co-trainers Corey and Kylie Geran send around ZEPHYR SONG (11) as a strong winning chance in the Doomben opener.
The daughter of Zoustar was last seen finding the line well after racing outside the lead, finishing a half-length second over this course and distance.
In her two previous runs since moving from the Waterhouse & Bott stable, she finished a close fourth at Toowoomba first-up, then third here.
Bella Youngberry’s 3kg claim should help her land on speed from the good gate.

SUPER FAIR (1) has been racing in superb form and looks the one to beat in this staying contest.
The Mark Callaghan-trained gelding was narrowly beaten three starts ago, finishing a neck second at the Gold Coast. He then found the line powerfully at Ipswich but went down by a head, despite his jockey fumbling with the persuader.
He went one better last start over 2040m here, storming home to nail Iconify on the line.
The rise to 2240m looks ideal given how strongly he finished, while Montanna Philpot’s 3kg claim comes in handy.

PERFECT PLAY (1) has been given plenty of weight but holds a significant class edge and will appreciate the drop in grade.
The Annabel and Rob Archibald-trained gelding raced a touch too keenly in blinkers over this course and distance last start. It took its toll late, and he finished 1.26 lengths fourth.
Three starts ago over the same track and trip, he fought bravely in a Benchmark 85 Handicap, going down by half a length.
He should race on speed for 2kg claimer Ryan Houston.

TINY LIGHT (9) will need to overcome the outside barrier, but her trial form suggests she’s up to the task.
The Tony Gollan-trained filly won her first trial in June before being spelled and returning for this preparation.
In her first trial this time in work, she led all the way to win by 5.8 lengths at the Gold Coast. She then showed good early speed to cross from the outside and comfortably win her most recent trial.
Bella Youngberry can use that speed to cross and either lead or take up a prominent position.
| 9. Tiny Light (11) 55kg |
STREET CHASE (4) resumes for new trainer Jack Bruce, who has a knack for improving horses.
The Zoustar gelding disappointed last preparation when racing wide at the Gold Coast and was sent back to the paddock.
He gets in well under the set-weight conditions, having won an Open Handicap and finished a head second in the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate as a three-year-old.
A bold showing looks on the cards after a recent trial in which he showed good speed to share the lead before dashing clear to win comfortably by just under three lengths.
Taylor Marshall can settle handy and stalk the leaders.

LOCKYER (3) is racing in good form, with two wins from his past three starts.
Tony Gollan placed his gelding perfectly three starts ago when he broke through for an overdue win over this course and distance.
After a solid effort at Eagle Farm, where he peaked late over 1400m, he returned to this track and trip last start and let down with serious intent to win easily.
There looks to be good speed in the race, which should allow 3kg claimer Emily Pozman to enjoy a nice run before letting the shackles off in the straight.

CARDONETTE (7) placed in each of her first four starts before breaking through for her maiden win at the Gold Coast last start.
The Tony Gollan-trained mare started a $1.35 favourite and never looked in doubt. She rounded up the field on the turn before letting down powerfully to win hands and heels by just over a length.
She’ll strip fitter second-up, and the slight rise in trip should suit.
The draw is a touch sticky, but Ben Thompson takes the ride and can navigate from there.
