Crystal Mile Tips & Predictions 2026: Best Bets

We have Crystal Mile tips and predictions for the Group 2 known this year as the Kia Ora Mile 1600m race at Flemington on Saturday.

Crystal Mile odds have Surfin’ Bird as the favourite, in what should be an open encounter at Flemington.

#7 Another Wil

ANOTHER WIL (8) looks an appealing option in the Crystal Mile, with the Ciaron Maher-trained gelding bringing an impressive career record into the Group 2 contest. He has won nine of his 24 starts, including multiple victories over 1600m, showing he has the class to compete at this level.

His recent third at Flemington over the mile was an encouraging effort, demonstrating that he remains competitive over the distance. Although his latest run at Caulfield was below his best, a return to Flemington could help him bounce back, particularly given his strong record at the track.

John Allen takes the ride from barrier 9, giving him the opportunity to settle midfield and find cover before making his move in the straight. If he can recapture his best form, Another Wil has the ability to feature prominently.

#6 Buckaroo @ $4.60

Buckaroo didn’t fire last time, but he’s a quality type with plenty of ability, and there has been a stack of money come for him throughout the week.

Having James McDonald in the saddle is a massive bonus, and barrier 3 should allow him to find a good spot in the running and make a sustained run in the straight.

At the each-way odds, we’re happy to include him in picks.

Best Roughie
#1 Von Hauke

VON HAUKE 9) looks an interesting value option at double-figure odds in the Crystal Mile. The Cliff Brown-trained gelding has plenty of experience and has shown he can compete over a mile, including a narrow victory in a 1600m race at Bendigo earlier this year.

His recent form has been mixed, but his ability to perform over the distance gives him some hope of improving in this contest. He also finished third at Eagle Farm over 1400m in June, showing he can be competitive when conditions suit.

Ethan Brown takes the ride from barrier 9, which presents a challenge, particularly if the tempo is strong and he is forced to settle wide. However, if he can find cover and conserve energy for the finish, he could be capable of running into the placings.
