With the Melbourne Cup Carnival rolling on after Tuesday’s headline race, attention quickly turns to Flemington on Thursday for the Group 1 VRC Crown Oaks, where a talented crop of three-year-old fillies step up to test their stamina in the famous 2500m classic. Featuring a cracking line-up of emerging staying prospects and last-start winners, this year’s edition shapes as a beauty, and the Ladbrokes form team has done the hard work with our complete VRC Oaks 2026 betting tips, predictions and best bets.
The latest VRC Oaks betting at Ladbrokes is headed by undefeated Spring Champion Stakes heroine Proxima Dea, who arrives in Melbourne chasing a sixth straight victory and looking to cement her status as the standout staying filly of her generation. Standing in her way are fellow Oaks contenders De Armas, the dominant Wakeful Stakes winner from the Chris Waller stable, and the ultra-consistent Icelady, while a host of value runners are hoping to spring a surprise in one of the most intriguing editions of the race in recent years.
Further depth comes from proven black-type fillies, progressive staying types on the rise, and several runners stepping up in trip off encouraging lead-up performances throughout the spring. With form lines converging from Sydney and Melbourne, a capacity field assembled, and plenty of betting opportunities throughout the market, the 2026 Crown Oaks looks set to be one of the standout betting races of the entire Melbourne Cup Carnival.

VRC Crown Oaks 2026 Tips
The hot and classy favourite in betting on this year’s VRC Oaks is the unbeaten PROXIMA DEA (19), and I can see why the punters have rallied around the David Payne-trained filly.
The daughter of Tarzino brings a perfect five-from-five record into the Flemington classic, highlighted by her tough Group 3 Gloaming Stakes win before stepping up again to dominate the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes over 2000m at Randwick, a race that has already produced outstanding form through Derby winner Stormy Marco.
She’s still got upside, shapes as though the rise to 2500m will suit, and the gun young Zac Lloyd sticks with the ride.
The wide draw in barrier 19 is the obvious hurdle and she’ll need to overcome a tricky piece of Oaks history if she’s to salute, but she looks capable of rolling forward, taking luck out of the equation and proving the benchmark filly of the field.
If she reproduces her Spring Champion performance, the rest will find it hard to run her down.

The clear each-way danger for mine is DE ARMAS (1), who ticks plenty of boxes heading into Thursday’s staying test also bringing in last start winning form.
The Chris Waller-trained daughter of Ardrossan comes through the traditional Oaks lead-up after a strong victory in the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes at Flemington on Derby Day, a form race that has produced a stack of recent Oaks winners.
She gets every favour from barrier one, draws to enjoy a soft run behind the speed, and swaps Blake Shinn for champion hoop James McDonald, which is hardly a downgrade.
While she can still be a little raw at times, her Wakeful win suggested she’s crying out for the rise to 2500m and, with Waller targeting this race and J-Mac doing the steering, she profiles as the filly most likely to give the favourite a genuine scare.
If she can emulate Treasurethe Moment’s Wakeful Stakes-VRC Oaks double from 2024, it would come as no surprise.
| 4. De Armas (1) 56kgx5241 |
At the double-figure quote, QUICK FINISH (5) shapes as the value runner and best roughie in this year’s Oaks for mine.
The Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained filly has done little wrong this preparation, putting together a winning hat-trick capped by her Group 3 Ethereal Stakes success before proving she belonged at the top level with a brave third in the Victoria Derby against the colts.
That run may prove the key form reference here, as she has already ticked the 2500m box and returns to the same track and trip back against her own sex.
Jye McNeil knows her well, barrier five should allow her to settle exactly where she wants, and she maps to get a much softer run than many of her key rivals.
If the favourites find trouble or fail to run out the testing journey, Quick Finish looks the filly capable of capitalising and adding the value to those Oaks exotics.

PROXIMA DEA (1) for a Top 3 finish is the anchor leg after her unbeaten five-start career, with the Group 1 Spring Champion winner bringing the standout form into the race despite a tricky wide draw.
DE ARMAS (4) for a also in the first three looks a must after her dominant Wakeful victory here at HQ, barrier one draw and the booking of the master James McDonald setting her up for another big performance.
QUICK FINISH (3) for a Top 4 run is the value inclusion, with the McEvoy-trained filly already proving she runs out a strong 2500m after her game Victoria Derby placing against the colts.
