The Aquanita Stakes is a Black-Type feature run and won at Belmont Racecourse in Western Australia at the start of July each year during the wider Perth Winter Racing Carnival.
Note, in 2025 the Aquanita Stakes ran at Bunbury Racecourse.
The Listed event is the key support act on Belmont Oaks Day, which is headlined by the three-year-old fillies facing off in the Listed $125,000 Belmont Oaks (2000m).
Also offering $125,000 in stakes and held over the same 2000m distance, the Aquanita Stakes is now the male equivalent to the Oaks open only to three-year-old colts and geldings.
The event was previously open to fillies and run over 1800m in the summer, and Arcadia Dream (December 2015) was the last filly to win before the race became a boys’ only event.
It was moved to July for the first time in 2017, with no edition taking place in 2016.
A set weights race, the event is named in honour of multiple Group 1 champion Aquanita, a star in both Perth and Melbourne during the early 1960s.
A number of star racehorses have won the Aquanita Stakes over the years including, most famously, Northerly (2000) who went on to win nine Group 1 races including his dual Cox Plate victories in 2001 and 2002.
