The Ladbrokes Hobart Cup is a 2400m staying test run and won at Hobart Racecourse each February during the popular Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival.

The handicap event currently offers $250,000 in stakes and is a time-honoured event first run in 1875.
Currently run on a Sunday as the sole Group race feature of Hobart Cup Day, the race serves as a nice lead-up into the Group 3 Launceston Cup (2400m) a fortnight later. Eastender (2019) was the last horse to complete the Hobart Cup – Launceston Cup double in the same year.
In 2024 the Hobart Cup was won by former two-time Launceston Cup champion Aurora’s Symphony (2022, 2023).
Plenty of quality stayers have taken out the Hobart Cup over the event’s rich history, most famously Piping Lane in 1972 who went on to win that spring’s iconic Melbourne Cup race at Flemington.

Hobart Cup Betting
Hobart Cup betting markets are led by in-form summer stayers from local Tasmanian stables with few interstate raiders making the trip.
The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Military Mission (2023) from Sydney, Symon Wilde’s Warrnambool-based gelding Aurora’s Symphony (2024), and Ciaron Maher’s Victorian trained Strawberry Rock (2025) are the latest interstate raiders to win the Hobart Cup.
Runners with previous winning form at the track, the proven mile and a half performers, and those with past Black-Type wins on their CV sit high up the Hobart Cup odds each season.
Favourites have a solid recent record in the Hobart Cup including back-to-back wins by Toorak Affair ($3.40 in 2020) and Double You Tee ($2.80 in 2021).
There was a blowout Hobart Cup winner in 2026 meanwhile with Blonde Star winning in a new track record time at a $31 starting price.
