  1. #9 Blonde Star
  2. #8 Ziryab
  3. #6 Distrustful Award

Imogen Miller’s underrated five-year-old Starcraft mare Blonde Star ($31) proved a staying revelation scoring a narrow upset win in the 2026 Ladbrokes Hobart Cup results on Sunday, producing a tough, sustained finish to outstay her rivals and claim the Tasmanian feature in impressive fashion. Settling into a perfect rhythm midfield, the mare crept into the race approaching the turn before grinding home strongly in the straight, asserting her class late to secure the biggest victory of her career. She held off the challengers in a photo-thriller to score by the barest of margins and continue her good Hobart record winning in a new track best of 2:29.67.

The Ladbrokes Hobart Cup is a 2400m staying test run and won at Hobart Racecourse each February during the popular Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival.

The handicap event currently offers $250,000 in stakes and is a time-honoured event first run in 1875.

Currently run on a Sunday as the sole Group race feature of Hobart Cup Day, the race serves as a nice lead-up into the Group 3 Launceston Cup (2400m) a fortnight later.  Eastender (2019) was the last horse to complete the Hobart Cup – Launceston Cup double in the same year.

In 2024 the Hobart Cup was won by former two-time Launceston Cup champion Aurora’s Symphony (2022, 2023).

Plenty of quality stayers have taken out the Hobart Cup over the event’s rich history, most famously Piping Lane in 1972 who went on to win that spring’s iconic Melbourne Cup race at Flemington.

Hobart Cup Betting

Hobart Cup betting markets are led by in-form summer stayers from local Tasmanian stables with few interstate raiders making the trip.

The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Military Mission (2023) from Sydney, Symon Wilde’s Warrnambool-based gelding Aurora’s Symphony (2024), and Ciaron Maher’s Victorian trained Strawberry Rock (2025) are the latest interstate raiders to win the Hobart Cup.

Runners with previous winning form at the track, the proven mile and a half performers, and those with past Black-Type wins on their CV sit high up the Hobart Cup odds each season.

Favourites have a solid recent record in the Hobart Cup including back-to-back wins by Toorak Affair ($3.40 in 2020) and Double You Tee ($2.80 in 2021).

There was a blowout Hobart Cup winner in 2026 meanwhile with Blonde Star winning in a new track record time at a $31 starting price.

Hobart Cup Field

The Hobart Cup race field attracts a quality line-up of mainly Tasmanian-trained stayers targeting a next-up run in the Launceston Cup at the state’s sister track over the same distance.

Many horses have contested the race previously with the Hobart Cup field often made-up of similar runners to the summer prior.

Hobart Cup nominations are taken the Monday before the race with final acceptances and barriers out on the Wednesday.

Hobart Cup Form Guide

The Hobart Cup form guide details key details for punters including the race field, lead-up runs, saddlecloth numbers, jockeys, barriers and weights of each horse.

The event serves as a key lead-up into Tasmania’s Launceston Cup, but the Hobart Cup form has also held in bigger and better races many times over the years including in 2007 when the winner Blutigeroo went on to win that year’s Group 1 Tancred Stakes (The BMW) in Sydney.

The 2022 Hobart Cup form was franked with the winner Ho Ho Khan second next-up in the Launceston Cup before heading to Flemington for the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) where he ran a brave fourth behind Duais at 60/1.

In 2023 the Hobart Cup third place-getter Spirit Ridge franked the form with top three runs in a host of other key races that year including the Launceston Cup (3rd), Grafton Cup (3rd), Wyong Cup (3rd), Newcastle Gold Cup (2nd), and most notably a second in the Group 1 The Metropolitan over 2400m in Sydney that spring.
