The opening Group 1 race meeting in Victoria for the annual Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival, Memsie Stakes Day is host to not only the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) but an additional three other Group races with the running of the Cockram Stakes, HDF McNeil Stakes and The Heath 1100 Stakes.

Contested over 1100m at set weights plus penalties, The Heath 1100 Stakes is open to horses aged four-years-old and above and offers $200,000 in prize money.

The inaugural and dual The Everest champion Redzel (2017-18) is the most famous The Heath 1100 Stakes winner in history having won the 2016 edition.

If not The Everest race The Heath 1100 Stakes graduates may stay in Melbourne and contest The Valley’s Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) during the Cox Plate Carnival. Samaready (2013) was the last horse to do The Heath 1100 Stakes – Moir Stakes double.

    • To Win: #12 She’s Bulletproof ($6.50 at time of publish) – BET NOW

Wide open edition of The Heath and a tricky race from a betting perspective, but I think based on what she did last prep SHE’S BULLETPROOF (10) looks a very classy mare who is right up to winning at this level fresh. She’s yet to win first-up but has placed in all three of her resuming runs to date so isn’t exactly a flop when kicking off campaigns. Charlotte Littlefield’s now five-year-old daughter of Shooting To Win looks ready to hit peak maturity now, and she was so brave here at the highest level in the autumn when runner-up to now confirmed The Everest slot holder Jimmysstar in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate at this track and trip. She may have only carried 52kg in that, but she lost few admirers up to six furlongs at The Valley after when fifth in the William Reid on Soft going. She’ll appreciate a genuine Good rated track and has Craig Williams booked for the ride. Can win.
