It offers $250,000 in prize money as of 2024 and is a quality handicap showdown.
The race is named in honour of champion mare and Australian Racing Hall of Famer Wenona Girl. Wenona Girl was a 27-time winner in the 1950s and early 1960s and Australia’s highest ever stakes winning mare at the time of her retirement.
In 2014 the race was run as the Roy Higgins Tribute Quality honouring champion jockey Roy Higgins (1938-2014) who died the week of the race.
The Wenona Girl Quality gained Group 3 status in 2014 and serves as a nice lead-up to the upcoming Group 1 sprint races of the autumn in Sydney.
