Coolmore Stud Stakes Betting & Odds

Coolmore Stud Stakes betting markets are usually led by the season’s best young sprinters that have winning form that campaign. Favourites in Coolmore Stud Stakes odds only have a fair recent strike rate with Zoustar (2013) the last to salute for the punters.

Double-figure chances in the Coolmore Stud Stakes odds have won plenty of times in the past decade including Merchant Navy ($19 in 2017), Flying Artie ($10 in 2016) and Japonisme ($21 in 2015), the latter handing trainer Chris Waller his third straight win in the race. Futures Coolmore Stud Stakes betting markets open weeks in advance of the race and are led by good spring performers in the Sydney and Melbourne lead-up sprints for three-year-olds.

Coolmore Stud Stakes Tips

Coolmore Stud Stakes tips are usually headed by the favourites with the short priced three-year-olds in the markets boasting a solid strike rate over the past decade. A wide barrier hasn’t been a hindrance so including those in double figure gates if the field is that big in your tips can add value. Sydney trainer Chris Waller has a strong record and his in-form three-year-olds make a good Coolmore Stud Stakes betting tip, as do the best out of lead-up races including the Roman Consul Stakes in Sydney or the Schillaci Stakes in Melbourne.

2017 Coolmore Stud Stakes Tips

Our Ladbrokes’ insider Coolmore Stud Stakes 2017 tips and Group 1 Melbourne Cup Carnival betting selections on the $1 million feature will be detailed below the week of the race so stay tuned for the three-year-olds to back and sack in this season’s Coolmore Stud Stakes results.

  • 1st: #5 VIRIDINE ($7.50) – In a wide open market without a short-priced favourite, the top fancy is this Godolphin-raced Poet’s Voice colt who is four-from-four in Sydney. Ventures south for the first time here on the back of a two length Randwick win in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) a month ago. That race produced all three of Chris Waller’s Coolmore Stud Stakes winners from 2013-15 and can produce one for the James Cummings-trained favourite in 2017 who gets things his way from barrier one.
  • 2nd: #11 LONE EAGLE ($34) – Place Chance at a huge price for last year’s winning trainer Mick Price is this nicely-bred Zoffany colt on the improve. Has had two goes down the straight without a top three run, but his third behind Formality and Jukebox in Caulfield’s Group 3 Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) was good. Third time lucky at Flemington?
  • 3rd: #10 EPTIMUM ($9) – One of the single-figure hopes, the Toby Edmonds-trained Snitzel gelding hasn’t lost since coming to Victoria for the spring. Three straight victories including the three length romp home over Single Bullet last Saturday at The Valley in the Group 3 Red Anchor Stakes (1200m). Same distance but tougher down the straight, should suit.

Coolmore Stud Stakes Field

The Coolmore Stud Stakes field ran with a bumper 20 final acceptors in 2017, the largest Coolmore Stud Stakes field of the past 30 plus years. It drew 10 or more runners every year since 2009, with small fields in 2007 (eight) and 2008 (seven) when Weekend Hussler and Northern Meteor won respectively, before Flying Artie (2017) beat home just seven rivals after two early scratchings.

Good lead-up races for youngsters into the Coolmore Stud Stakes field include Randwick’s Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes, which produced all three of Chris Waller’s winners from 2013-15 including Zoustar (2013) and Brazen Beau (2014) who did the double.

Final Coolmore Stud Stakes acceptances close on the Wednesday before the race following nominations on the Monday.

The official Coolmore Stud Stakes 2017 Final Field & Barriers are announced by Racing Victoria on the Wednesday leading-up to Derby Day and will be published in full below so stay tuned to see what short-distance three-year-olds make the million dollar field.

A full 2017 Coolmore Stud Stakes Field of 20 three-year-olds has been released with the Godolphin-raced Viridine in barrier one looking to retain his undefeated record after a win in Sydney’s Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes last start. Golden Rose winner Trapeze Artist suffered a blow out in barrier 18, as did the Lindsay Park-trained Catchy (17) who is proven down the Flemington straight. Lindsay Park saddle-up three fillies taking on the boys with Catchy joined by The Everest graduate Tulip (13) and last start Blue Sapphire Stakes winner Formality (2) out to do the double Flying Artie achieved in 2016.
