Chris Waller’s progressive Zed filly Belle Detelle ($6), a close relation to the stable’s ill-fated Melbourne Cup winning mare Verry Elleegant, lived up to her pedigree running out a strong 2000m to narrowly salute in the Adrian Knox Stakes 2025 results ahead of a potential quick back-up into the ATC Oaks or a winter target in the Queensland Oaks later in the year.Â

The Adrian Knox Stakes is a Group 3 race for three-year-old fillies held on Day 1 of Sydney’s ‘The Championships’ in April.

Traditionally held on the first Saturday in April at Royal Randwick, the meeting is host to four Group 1 races including the Doncaster Mile and TJ Smith Stakes.
Run over 2000m, the Adrian Knox Stakes is a key support act on the card outside the elite level races and is a quality handicap event.
Offering $250,000 in prize money, the race serves as a final lead-up for fillies looking to run in the following Saturday’s Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m).
Colette (2020) is the last filly to complete the Adrian Knox Stakes – Australian Oaks double. Incredibly, that year the same three fillies from the Adrian Knox Stakes trifecta finished in the same order in the Australian Oaks trifecta.
The event is named in honour of former Australian Jockey Club chairman, Adrian Knox, and was first contested in 1948 as the Princess Handicap.
Gaining Group 3 status in 1986, the Adrian Knox Stakes has been won by plenty of very good fillies over the years including Light Fingers (1965) who went on to win that year’s Melbourne Cup in the spring.
The Adrian Knox Stakes has been held over its current distance of 2000m since 1973 having been previous run over 1400m and then 1600m.

Adrian Knox Stakes Form Guide
The Adrian Knox Stakes form guide details all the crucial info punters need before placing a bet like saddlecloth numbers, jockeys, trainers, barriers and lead-up runs.
Looking for fillies coming off a winning lead-up in Group company is key when doing the Adrian Knox Stakes form, as well as those three-year-old with previous winning form over at least 2000m.Â
Belle Detelle (2025) was the last Adrian Knox Stakes winner to come off a lead-up victory.Â
The Adrian Knox Stakes form has gone on to stack-up in elite level company many times over the years including in 2021 when the winner Duais ran a next-up second in the Australian Oaks before winning that winter’s Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) in Brisbane. The 2021 Adrian Knox runner-up Bargain further franked the form when third in the Australian Oaks trifecta.
The previous year, Colette (2020) won the ATC Oaks next-up and also went on to take out the $10 million The Golden Eagle at Rosehill that spring and the following year’s Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes.Â
In 2023 the Adrian Knox form was franked with the third placegetter Premise also running third in that year’s Australian Oaks trifecta next start.Â
The 2024 Adrian Knox Stakes form was franked with the runner-up Autumn Angel winning the ATC Oaks at her next start.Â

2025 Adrian Knox Stakes Tips
Our Ladbrokes’ exclusive Adrian Knox Stakes 2025 best bets will be detailed below before the race takes place on the first Saturday of April so bookmark this page for the fillies to back and sack this autumn.
- To Win: #4 Sun ‘N’ Sand ($13 at time of publish) – BET NOW
Going for a value runner in the Adrian Knox and have Sun ‘N’ Sand on top at 12/1 at time of publish. While so many of these are up notably in grade, plenty after a maiden win, this nicely bred daughter of Pride Of Dubai is actually Group 3 performed at her latest and not far beaten. Hailing from the Canberra stables of Barbara Joseph, Paul & Matt Jones, she was sixth in the Kembla Grange Classic by only 1.3 lengths off Verona Rose in mid-March on a Soft (5). That form was franked with the winner running a good fourth in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes on Tuesday over this distance. That bodes well for Sun ‘N’ Sand now who won her start prior at home with 58kg and Alysha Collett, who is back aboard on Saturday. Wider draw actually keeps her out of trouble and think she’s been forgotten. Can surprise.Â
Adrian Knox Stakes Results
