Ladbrokes Tip: The Belmont Sprint makes a nice next-up option for graduates out of the Roma Cup.
First contested in 1963, the Belmont Sprint is a Group 3 race held in May during the Perth Winter Racing Carnival for sprinters. Contested at Belmont Racecourse – which is the other key Perth track outside of Ascot – the event is contested over 1400m and offers a total of $200,000 in prize money.
The weight-for-age race started out as a quality handicap event before being changed in 2015 and is open to horses aged two-years-old and above.
It serves as a nice next-up options for graduates out of the Group 3 Roma Cup (1200m) and Rock Magic (2017) was the last horse to do the double.
Many top Perth horses have won the Belmont Sprint over the years including Burgess Queen (1977), Grand Nirvana (2010, 2011), Luckygray (2012), and Galaxy Star (2019).
The next edition of the Belmont Sprint runs on Saturday May 18th, 2024.

Belmont Sprint Betting
The Belmont Sprint betting odds are usually led by the season’s top performing sprinters, especially in-form mares as the female gallopers have a strong recent record in the event.
Proven form in the traditional Perth lead-up races is good, especially those coming off a Group 3 Roma Cup run over 200m shorter a fortnight prior.
Favourites in Belmont Sprint markets have a solid recent strike rate so backing the top elect to run in the money is a good tip.

Belmont Sprint Field
The Belmont Sprint race field is made up of classy local and interstate gallopers.
A good lead-up into the Belmont Sprint field is the Roma Cup and Rock Magic (2017) was the last galloper to complete the Roma Cup – Belmont Sprint double.
Many horses in the Belmont Sprint field are gearing up for similar features over the winter in Perth including the Group 3 Hyperion Stakes (1600m) and Group 3 Strickland Stakes (2000m) over further distances.
In 2018 class galloper Material Man completed the Belmont Sprint – Hyperion – Strickland Stakes treble. Perfect Jewel (2020) is the last runner to Belmont Sprint – Hyperion Stakes double, while the 2020 runner-up in the Roma Cup, Belmont Sprint and Hyperion Stakes – The Velvet King – returned to win the 2021 Belmont Sprint further franking the form.
Horses trained outside of Perth rarely make the trip east for the race, so the Belmont Sprint field and results have been dominated by the local stables.
Fillies and mares have a very strong recent record in the race including wins by Elite Belle (2014), Wink And A Nod (2016), Galaxy Star (2019) and Perfect Jewel (2020).
Nominations for the Belmont Sprint are taken on the Tuesday of race week followed by final acceptances on the Wednesday at midday (local time).

- To Win: #9 Magnificent Andy ($19 at time of publish) – BET NOW
Always a good race over in Perth, the Belmont Sprint could be in for a big shake-up this year and we’ve got Magnificent Andy as an underrated winner at close to $20 for the win. This consistent and improving Magnus five-year-old brings in the right form lines coming off a close fourth to Saturday’s odds-on Belmont Sprint favourite Western Empire (who he meets far better in the weights in Saturday’s rematch) in the Group 3 Northam Stakes. First-up Ascot winner the start before in The Joey, has excellent form at this distance (15:7-3-1), drawn to get a dream run while the short favourite has work to do out wide. Can surprise at a juicy price.

Perfect Jewel (2020) was the last runner to complete the Belmont Sprint – Hyperion Stakes double.
