She’s yet to win in three runs back from a break, but all three of those performances have suggested another victory isn’t far away for Bella Montagna.
Having only just been denied by Alalcance in the Group 3 Premier’s Cup here a fortnight ago, she meets that horse better at the conditions this week and steps out herself in peak order.

| Recent form sound. Most recently came from midfield; 2nd of 14 at this track in the G3 Prem Cup on May 30 over 2400m, slow going neck behind Alalcance carrying 54kg at $4.60. Before that 4th of 16 at Gosford Bm78 on May 9 over 2100m, 1.0 len behind Monopolistic carrying 60kg at $9.50. Just peaked last start and should be cherry ripe now. | |||
Within The Law returned to action with an eye-catching performance to finish third in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic a fortnight ago.
A winner at this point of her campaign previously, she’ll relish getting out to the mile and is drawn to receive a dream run this week under Tommy Berry.

| Second-up today. Last outing made significant ground from the rear of the field 3rd of 18 at this track in the G3 Fred Best 3yo on May 30 over 1400m, on a slow track; 1.75 len behind Regal Award with 55kg at $13. At only start last preparation 5th of 14 at Rosehill in the G3 B/Day Card on March 21 over 1200m, on a slow track; 1.75 len behind Catch The Glory with 55kg at $9.50. Great effort in a strong race last time and this looks a perfect follow-up assignment. | |||
Chris Waller saddles up yet another key chance in a JJ Atkins when Tron Bolt steps out this week.
Horses like Press Statement and The Autumn Sun have announced themselves for the Waller yard in this race previously, and Tron Bolt takes his place following two dominant victories in Sydney.
It’s a rise in class, but he has plenty of ability and upside, and he is further boosted by the booking of James McDonald.

| Racing well recently. At the latest run favourite; won by 2 len at Rosehill 2yo Hcp May 30 over 1300m in heavy going defeating Cormier with 56kg at $2.80. The race before that favourite; tracked the speed and boxed on steadily; won by 3 len at Randwick Kensington 2yo Hcp May 13 over 1400m defeating Rolling Home with 56.5kg at $2.70. Has the ideal profile for this race. | |||
I think the Ladbrokes Stradbroke offers a great opportunity to try and find something at a price and for mine, Estadio Mestalla is one that I think has genuine claims at around the $26 mark.
A model of consistency throughout his career and there’s no doubt he’s improved for two runs back this time.
I think he gets into the race very favourably with 53.5kgs, blinkers on which is something Joe Pride has had a lot of success with, at that price each way all day.

| Third-up today and won third-up previously. Resuming 6th of 14 at Hawkesbury in the LR Hawk Rush on May 2 over 1100m, 2.75 len behind Zealously carrying 61kg at $12. Last start 4th of 13 at Scone in the LR Luskinstar on May 16 over 1300m, 2.5 len behind Sun God with 61kg at $16. Expected to do much better with the blinkers back on. | |||
Vauban looks to find his right race in the Q22.
He’s been a prominent performer in many of Australia’s best staying contests in recent years, and after adding the Sky High Stakes to his CV back in March, he’s since filled the minors of both the Tancred Stakes and the Doomben Cup.
With natural improvement off that latest run, he’s one that won’t be hampered by a rain-affected track this week.
| 2. Vauban (11) J: Tim Clark 59kg 6×133T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott | |||
| Racing well recently. Most recently came home strongly from last on the turn; 3rd of 7 at Doomben in the G1 Doomben Cup on May 23 over 2000m, 3.5 len behind Birdman with 59kg at $8.50. The race before that sat on the pace when 3rd of 8 at Rosehill in the G1 Tancred on March 28 over 2400m, on a slow track; 5 len behind Aeliana with 59kg at $7. Will be hard to hold out over the extra 200m. | |||
