Autumn Ballet in 2023 is to date the event’s only debutant winner.
The colts and geldings usually dominate the Black Opal Stakes odds with just five fillies since 1989 having beaten the boys, most recently Pin Sec (2019), Queen Of The Ball (2022), and most recently Autumn Ballet (2023).
Queen Of The Ball ($2.80 in 2022) was the last favourite in Black Opal Stakes betting to win.

- To Win: #1 Fully Lit ($1.45 at time of publish) – BET NOW
Have seen a few odds-on elects get rolled of late, but don’t think that will be the case in the Group 3 feature at Canberra on Sunday. Fully Lit is undefeated heading into the 2YOs showdown in the nation’s capital with an eye on a bigger autumn prize. The promising and progressive Hellbent colt from the Waterhouse/Bott stable was good on debut with a 2.8 length win at Rosehill and backed that up saluting in Randwick’s lucrative Inglis Millennium last month. Good interim trial and ready to win again at the short quote here.
