Ladbrokes Tip: The Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude form has held up in the Group 1 Blue Diamond plenty in recent years
The Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude is one of three Group 2 support races one of the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival’s earliest and biggest meetings – C.F. Orr Stakes Day. The meeting runs at Caulfield Racecourse on a Saturday in mid-February each year and is headlined by the Group 1 C.F. Orr Stakes (1400m).
Recently upgraded from a Group 3 to a Group 2 event, the Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude is also a highlight on the bill and offers $200,000 in total prize money. A set weights race open only to two-year-old fillies, the Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude is run over 1100m on the same day as the Group 3 Blue Diamond Colts & Geldings Prelude for the boys.
It is obviously a traditional lead-up to the classic Group 1 $1.5 million Neds-sponsored Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) back at the track a fortnight later and the double was recently completed by Lyre (2019), Catchy (2017), Earthquake (2014) and Samaready (2012).
The next edition of the Neds Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude takes place on Saturday February 6, 2021.
