Recently upgraded from a Group 3 to a Group 2 event, the Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude is also a highlight on the bill and offers $300,000 in total prize money. It is obviously a traditional lead-up to the classic Group 1 $2 million  Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) back at the track a fortnight later and the double was recently completed by Hayasugi (2024), Lyre (2019), Catchy (2017), Earthquake (2014), and Samaready (2012).

Just two fillies have managed to win the Blue Diamond Preview – Blue Diamond Prelude – Blue Diamond Stakes treble with Midnight Fever (1987) and Hayasugi (2024) claiming all three events in their two-year-old seasons.

Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude Tips

Looking for the fillies that ran well in the BD Preview earlier in the autumn or that come off a good trial ahead of a new season return are good Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude tips.

Favourites also have a strong strike-rate in the race so looking for fillies at single figures in the markets that are proven in Melbourne are other Blue Diamond Prelude betting tips to take.

That said, upsets are not uncommon either with Letzbeglam ($31 in 2020) the longest-priced winner in recent years followed by the 2023 upset by Exploring ($15).

Arcaded ($2.70 in 2021) meanwhile was the most recent favourite to get the job done for the punters.

Our insider Blue Diamond Prelude Tips for Fillies in 2025 will be published below the week of the race so stay tuned.

  • To Win: #2 Miss Celine ($11 at time of publish) – BET NOW

She needs to make up some five lengths to turn the tables on her last start conqueror in the Preview but think returning to Caulfield second-up will do the trick making Miss Celine lovely value in the Group 2 Prelude for fillies. Team Hayes’ daughter of Magnus won here on debut in the Listed Debutant Stakes last prep before resuming at Sandown to place fourth carrying 58kg. She meets My Gladiola equal in the weights now in a big plus for this underrated black-type winner who presents fitter for that run. She’ll get things her way from the inside alley, and Blake Shinn in the saddle is a plus. Can surprise.

Looking for the fillies dominant in betting, drawn an inside alley and coming off a nice lead-up in a race like the Blue Diamond Preview are all important form-wise.

The Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude form has also stacked up plenty of times in the subsequent Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) in recent years. In 2014 Earthquake won the BD Prelude – BD Stakes double before a second to Mossfun two runs later in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) in Sydney.

The latest fillies to do the Blue Diamond Prelude – Blue Diamond Stakes double are Catchy for the David Hayes-led Lindsay Park stable in 2017 followed two years later by the Anthony Freedman-trained Lyre (2019) who also finished third in that season’s Golden Slipper results, and most recently Blue Diamond treble winner Hayasugi (2024).

Earlier Guelph (2013) also won the Blue Diamond Prelude and later in the season won the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) – Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) double at Royal Randwick Racecourse further franking the form.

The 2022 Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude winner Revolutionary Miss franked the form with a second next start in that autumn’s Blue Diamond Stakes results. She was also good in the spring finishing runner-up in the Thousand Guineas (1600m).
