The Blue Diamond Fillies Preview is the first of the traditional lead-up races towards the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) conducted at Caulfield Racecourse* during the annual Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival.

*In 2023 the Blue Diamond Fillies Preview and Australia Day races in Melbourne took place at Ladbrokes Park Hillside, Sandown. 

The Group 3 status race is traditionally held on the Australia Day long weekend and is a set weights plus penalties sprint open to two-year-old fillies.

A 1000m sprint offering $250,000 in prize money, the race takes place on the same day as the Listed $250,000 Blue Diamond Preview for colts and geldings.

First contested in 1982, the Blue Diamond Preview (Fillies) gained Group 3 status in 2015.

Following a run in the Blue Diamond Preview, fillies usually back-up a fortnight later in the Group 2 $300,000 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) and then the Group 1 $2 million Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) held in late February.

Fontiton (2015) followed nearly a decade later by Hayasugi (2024) are the latest fillies to do the Blue Diamond Preview – Prelude double.

Just three fillies have completed the Blue Diamond Preview – Blue Diamond Stakes double: Bounding Away (1986), Miracles Of Life (2013), and Hayasugi (2024) who did the Preview – Prelude – Blue Diamond treble!

The next edition of the Blue Diamond Fillies Preview took place on Saturday January 25, 2025 and was won in a photo-finish by the Clinton McDonald-trained Hayasugi ($5.50).
