Classy young Street Boss filly Motorsports ($4F) announced herself as a rising sprint star with victory in the 2025 Blue Sapphire Stakes results at Caulfield on Saturday.

Trained by Tony & Calvin McEvoy and ridden by Harry Coffey, the three-year-old produced a powerful performance in the Group 3 feature. Settling just off the speed, Motorsports unleashed a decisive burst in the straight to overhaul the leaders coming right down the outside in the final furlong to score impressively for favourite backers.

The win marked her first black-type success and underlined her potential to progress to higher level races in the autumn having earlier broken her maiden status the run prior at Pakenham.

Blue Sapphire Stakes Tips

Top Blue Sapphire tips include looking for any three-year-olds coming off a Group 1 run, proven 1200m runners, those with a good strike-rate at the Caulfield track and any of the better performers from the prior season in juvenile features like the Golden Slipper Stakes.

The fillies also make a good Blue Sapphire Stakes betting tip with plenty of recent wins by the girls including Motorsports (2025), Anaheed (2019), Formality (2017), and Eloping (2014).

2025 Blue Sapphire Stakes Tips

Our Ladbrokes’ insider Blue Sapphire 2025 betting tips and Caulfield racing selections will be detailed below the week of the race so bookmark this page for the three-year-olds to back and sack in the Group 3 this spring.

To Win: No. 2 Regeneration

REGENERATION (6) has firmed as the early market mover and still sits at a very backable $5 at time of publish, shaping as one of the key plays in Saturday’s Blue Sapphire.

Anthony & Sam Freedman’s progressive son of King’s Legacy is building nicely this prep and looks to be hitting his stride at the right time. He broke through for his maiden win second‑up at Geelong on November 14 over 1207m, saluting as the odds‑on elect by a length after rolling forward and sticking to the task strongly.

This is a step up in grade, but he drops a kilo to 57kg and the smaller field should play right into his hands as he chases back‑to‑back wins. Lachlan Neindorf takes the reins, having partnered him two runs back for a close second at Sale when narrowly denied fresh before bouncing back last start.

He’ll need to lift again against sharper opposition, but the profile suggests he’s got another gear to find – and punters are already warming to him as am I.

The Blue Sapphire Stakes is a 1200m race for three-year-olds now held at Caulfield Racecourse on the Zipping Classic Day during the tail-end of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

It was previously run over 1200m as part of a mid-week meeting run on the Wednesday before Caulfield Cup Day but was moved ahead of the 2023 edition.

In 2025 it runs at Caulfield on the same day as the Group 2 Zipping Classic (2400m) and Group 3 Eclipse Stakes (1800m).

The Blue Sapphire Stakes was reduced in prize money in 2021 from $400,000 to $200,000 but had stakes boosted back up to $500,000 for the 2023 race.

In 2025 the Blue Sapphire Stakes prize money was cut to $250,000.

A set weights showdown, the event previously served as a potential lead-up to Flemington’s Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on Victoria Derby Day but now runs after the Coolmore.

Flying Artie (2016) was the last horse to complete the Blue Sapphire Stakes – Coolmore Stud Stakes double before the Group 3 moved dates and was increased in distance to 1400m.

The event was officially inaugurated in 2005 but was open only to juveniles before becoming a stable three-year-old’s feature in 2012 and ran on Caulfield Guineas Day before being moved to the following Wednesday the next year.

The Blue Sapphire Stakes has held Group 3 status since 2016.

In 2023 and 2024 the distance was increased from 1200m to 1400m before reverting back to six-furlongs ahead of the 2025 edition.

Grand Impact ($4.80 in 2022) and Motorsports ($4 in 2025) are the latest Blue Sapphire Stakes favourites to win.

There was a notable upset in the 2023 edition with Run Harry Run winning over the 1400m at Blue Sapphire Stakes odds of $13.
