Ladbrokes Tip: The Dane Ripper Stakes is a key lead-up to the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara
The Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes is traditionally one of the major support acts on Stradbroke Handicap Day held on a Saturday in mid-June each year at Eagle Farm Racecourse at the end of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival. The meeting is traditionally host to a triple shot of Group 1 racing action with the

Stradbroke Handicap, JJ Atkins and new feature the $1.2 million The Q22 all highlights on the card.
Note: The COVID-19 pandemic saw a number of big changes to the 2020 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival including the Dane Ripper Stakes running a week after the Stradbroke offering a reduced $175,000. There was also no Tattersall’s Tiara being held in 2020 and the Dane Ripper Stakes ran as a weight-for-age event instead of set weights plus penalties.
The 2017 Dane Ripper Stakes ran Doomben over 1350m after Eagle Farm Racecourse was declared unfit for racing, while in 2020 the race ran the weekend after the Stradbroke due to COVID-19 and was won in an upset by 40/1 shot Love You Lucy.
The distance was reduced to 1300m in 2021.
There are also a number of Group 2 features on the program including the Dane Ripper Stakes, formerly the Dane Ripper Quality, for fillies and mares. Run over 1400m at set weights plus penalties, the event was previous run under handicap conditions.
In 2020 the Dane Ripper Stakes ran as the headline race and took place as a weight-for-age event offering $175,000.
It now offers $300,000 in prize money and is a key lead-up into the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) held at the same track a fortnight later during the broader Queensland Winter Racing Carnival.
The last horses to complete the Dane Ripper Stakes – Tattersall’s Tiara double are Invincibella (2019) and then three-year-old Cosmic Endeavour (2014) repeating the feat achieved the previous year by Red Tracer (2013). Red Tracer also won the 2012 edition and was the first back-to-back Dane Ripper Stakes winner.
If not the Tatt’s Tiara, fillies and mares out of the Dane Ripper Stakes may opt to take on an easier class of runners on Tiara Day in the Group 3 WJ Healy Stakes (1200m).
Later the fellow Chris Waller-trained Invincibella (2018-19) would also win successive editions of the event before her 2019 Tattersall’s Tiara win.
In 2024 the Dane Ripper Stakes ran on Saturday June 15, 2024 at Eagle Farm Racecourse in Brisbane and saw C’est Magique ($5.50) salute in her first run for the Waller stable.

Dane Ripper Stakes Betting
Dane Ripper Stakes betting odds are led by in-form mares coming off good lead-up runs in similar class and company. The results of earlier races like in Brisbane affect the Dane Ripper Stakes betting markets each winter, and combining those the female-only races is a popular betting double with the punters.
Sydney raiders have a top record in the Dane Ripper so the in-form interstate visitors from stables like that of Chris Waller who prepared dual winners Red Tracer (2012-13) and Invincibella (2018-19) often are high up the markets.
Dane Ripper Stakes betting opens after the final field of acceptances is released the Wednesday before the race takes place that Saturday.
The biggest upset in recent history was in 2020 when the winner Love You Lucy jumped as a 40/1 roughie in Dane Ripper Stakes betting, while in 2022 there was plenty of value to be had on the local winner Palaisipan ($21) from the Chris Munce stable. Another local was on top in an upset in 2023 with the Tony Gollan-trained Comrade Rosa winning at $17 odds.

Dane Ripper Stakes Field
The Dane Ripper Stakes race field features a quality line-up of nice fillies and mares that are looking to back-up into the more lucrative Tattersall’s Tiara two weeks later back at Eagle Farm Racecourse.
Runners come via a number of different lead-up races including Brisbane’s $500,000 Magic Millions National Classic now run the weekend before on Oaks Day and previously known as the Queensland Sapphire Stakes as well as the Glenlogan Park Stakes.
In 2014 Belle De Coeur ran second in the Glenlogan before a third to Cosmic Endeavour in the Group 2 Dane Ripper, while in 2016 Cradle Me also finished runner-up in the Glenlogan before her Dane Ripper Stakes success. The Glenlogan form was franked once more in 2018 when the runner-up Invincibella won the Group 2 at Doomben on a Heavy track.
Scone’s Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) and Morphettville’s Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) are other interstate races fillies and mares may contest on way to a Dane Ripper Stakes run. In 2015 Bound For Earth ran third in both the Dark Jewel Classic and Dane Ripper Stakes before a fourth in the Tattersall’s Tiara to Srikandi. That same year Hazard completed the Proud Miss Stakes – Dane Ripper double.
The Proud Miss Stakes – Dane Ripper Stakes double was most recently completed by Brooklyn Hustle (2021).
Dane Ripper Stakes nominations close the Monday before the race with the final field and barriers out on the Wednesday.

- To Win: #4 Coco Jamboo ($10 at time of publish) – BET NOW
Open and intriguing edition of the Dane Ripper and leaning towards Coco Jamboo for the value second-up down under now with the Snowden stable. This former European made her Australian debut at Hawkesbury on May 4 and posted a narrow Group 3 win in the Crown race over 1300m. Kept fresh since but looked the goods in a subsequent trial. Has winning form over the distance overseas, Tom Sherry retains the ride, and even from the wide alley think natural improvement and the experience has her a potential upset winner here.
