The event is restricted to Inglis sales graduates and is part of the exciting Australian Guineas Day card at headquarters.

The sole elite level feature on the Flemington card at the meeting is the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m), also for three-year-old runners, while the Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) is the other key support act on Guineas Day.

Part of the coveted Inglis Race Series, the Inglis Sprint is worth $1 million in prize money and is run at set weights down the famous Flemington ‘Straight Six’ (1200m).

Horses that contested the previous season’s $2 million Inglis Millennium (1100m) as juveniles in Sydney often return as autumn three-year-olds to contest the Inglis Sprint in Victoria.

The Inglis Sprint was first run in 2015 when the filly Lady Sniper became the inaugural champion. Initially, it was held at Randwick Racecourse in Sydney before moving to Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse in 2022.

The opening two editions took place in Sydney in December, while there was no 2017 race before the event resumed as an annual autumn feature from 2018 onwards.

Inglis Sprint Betting

Inglis Sprint odds and betting traditionally favour proven gallopers that have winning form over the distance and at Flemington down the straight.

Favourites in Inglis Sprint betting have a solid recent record.

Estriella ($3.20 in 2024) was the last Inglis Sprint favourite to salute for the punters.

Any past Group race winners are usually high up the Inglis Sprint markets.

Barriers have not really affected the Inglis Sprint results to date and so the barrier draw has a lesser impact on the Inglis Sprint odds.

Between 2021 and 2025 three of the four Inglis Sprint winners jumped from a double-digit gate with Rocketing By (barrier 10 in 2021), Overpass (barrier 13 in 2022), and Benedetta (barrier 16 in 2023).

Last start winners make a nice Inglis Sprint bet including any fillies out of the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on CF Orr Stakes Day.

Estriella (2024) was the last horse to complete the Kevin Hayes Stakes – Inglis Sprint double.

Inglis Sprint Field

The Inglis Sprint race field has a capacity of 20 starters plus four emergencies and attracts the season’s most promising three-year-old sprinters.

Following a run in the Inglis Sprint the top three-year-old contenders may continue onto tougher autumn assignments including Sydney’s Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) held at Rosehill in late March on Golden Slipper Day, Moonee Valley’s Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) run south on the same date, and Randwick’s Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) run in April during The Championships.

2025 Inglis Sprint Field

The official Inglis Sprint 2025 Final Field is set for release at 9:30am (local time) on the Wednesday of race week.

The 2025 Inglis Sprint field features a near capacity line-up of 3YO Inglis graduates led in betting by the widely drawn Reserve Bank with the outside barrier (19) to overcome.

  • To Win: #4 Rue De Royale ($27 at time of publish) – BET NOW

Wide open field for the lucrative Inglis Sprint race at Headquarters this weekend but, with a number of the better fancied chances drawn the carpark, have tipped a boilover with Rue De Royale fresh looking huge value at 26/1 at time of publish. The nicely bred Per Incanto colt will get a charmed run from gate four with Harry Coffey aboard the Tony & Calvin McEvoy trained youngster first-up. He’s had three runs fresh for just one second placing but finished his spring strongly with a second in the Group 3 Blue Sapphire at Caulfield in November. Group 2 placed in the spring at The Valley behind Evaporate he is a Caulfield Guineas graduate. Will obviously improve over further with his only win to date from a dozen starts being over 1300m but just think he might be better this time in and ready to race better than the markets suggest.

Inglis Sprint Form Guide

The Inglis Sprint form guide lists all of the crucial information punters need to know before placing a bet including saddlecloth numbers, lead-up runs, jockeys, trainers and the barriers for all the horses in the field.

Important Inglis Sprint form facts to note include the strong record of fillies in the race, the fact just three runners between 2021 – 2025 saluted from barrier 10 or wider, and that the favourites have a good record in the race.

The Inglis Sprint form is often franked later in the year with the top graduates going on to contest the country’s major Group 1 sprint races across the autumn and into the spring.

In 2023 the Inglis Sprint winner Benedetta went on to run fourth in both the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate and Group 1 Newmarket Handicap the following autumn. She also won the 2024 Group 1 The Goodwood in Adelaide.
