Ladbrokes Tip: The premier Randwick Guineas lead-up is the Hobartville Stakes run at Rosehill
The Randwick Guineas is a highlight race of the annual Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and takes place at Royal Randwick Racecourse on a Saturday in early March. The mile feature runs over 1600m and is part of a Group 1 double-header on Randwick Guineas Day supported by the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m).
Open only to three-year-old runners the feature is worth $1 million in prize money and is run at set weights with colts and geldings carrying 56.5kg and fillies allocated 54.5kg. The Randwick Guineas winner is exempt from ballot for both the Doncaster Mile run over the same track and distance during Sydney’s The Championships in April as well as the ATC Derby held over 2400m.
The season’s premier three-year-olds often run in the Randwick Guineas before backing-up in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) over 400m further in a fortnight’s time. The Autumn Sun (2019) was the last horse to complete the Randwick Guineas – Rosehill Guineas double. The race is also a great guide to the ATC Derby held over 2400m. It’s A Dundeel (2013) was the last Randwick Guineas winner to continue on and win the Australian Derby.
This year’s Randwick Guineas runs on Saturday March 6, 2021.

Randwick Guineas Tips
The top Randwick Guineas tips are to look at the lead-up form of the three-year-olds in the field and look for horses that ran in the top three in their latest run.
Only three Randwick Guineas winners in over a decade ran worse than fourth in their last Group race start with Jymcarew (11th in 2005), Inference who improved on a Hobartville Stakes fifth to salute in 2017 and the 2020 Hobartville fifth placed Shadow Hero. Fillies are often a danger Randwick Guineas tip to take as they have only a fare record over the boys in the race.
Barriers seem to matter little when it comes to Randwick Guineas tipping with an even spread of winners from single and double digit gates. The most popular barriers since 1983 with six Randwick Guineas winners is barrier four, Kementari (2018) and The Autumn Sun (2019) the latest to salute from the gate.
2021 Randwick Guineas Tips
Our Ladbrokes’ exclusive Randwick Guineas 2021 tips and exotic Royal Randwick Group 1 betting selections will be detailed below the week of the race so bookmark this page to see who to back and sack in the autumn feature.
