The Randwick Guineas is a highlight race of the annual Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and takes place at Royal Randwick Racecourse on a Saturday in early March. The mile feature runs over 1600m and is part of a Group 1 double-header on Randwick Guineas Day supported by the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m).

Open only to three-year-old runners the feature is worth $1 million in prize money and is run at set weights with colts and geldings carrying 56.5kg and fillies allocated 54.5kg. The Randwick Guineas winner is exempt from ballot for both the Doncaster Mile run over the same track and distance during Sydney’s The Championships in April as well as the ATC Derby held over 2400m.

The season’s premier three-year-olds often run in the Randwick Guineas before backing-up in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) over 400m further in a fortnight’s time. The race is also a great guide to the ATC Derby held over 2400m.
