Ladbrokes Tip: The Randwick Guineas – Rosehill Guineas is a popular autumn betting double
The Rosehill Guineas takes place at Rosehill Racecourse in March as part of the elite Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival action on Golden Slipper Stakes Day.
The meeting, usually held on the third Saturday in March, features five top-level races including the Rosehill Guineas run over 2000m for three-year-olds. Run at set weights the colts and geldings in the Rosehill Guineas field carry 56.5kg while the fillies carry 54.5kg.
Many of the three-year-olds in the race come out of the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) contested over 400m less at Randwick a fortnight earlier and the double was last achieved by It’s A Dundeel (2013) and The Autumn Sun (2019).
In 2022 Anamoe improved on a Randwick Guineas second to turn the tables and defeat his last start conqueror Converge in the Rosehill Guineas.
The Rosehill Guineas is also a nice lead-up into the Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) over the mile and a half on Doncaster Mile Day during The Championships. The last horse to do the Rosehill Guineas – Australian Derby double was Criterion (2014).
The latest edition of the Rosehill Guineas ran on Saturday March 19, 2022 on the popular Golden Slipper Day card in Sydney and saw the James Cummings-trained favourite Anamoe ($1.70F) win by an impressive seven lengths.

The spring’s Caulfield Guineas champ was narrowly denied a Randwick Guineas win when second as the beaten favourite last time out, but is fit and ready to atone for that in his rematch with Converge here over 2000m. At the trip in Melbourne last prep he nearly won the Ladbrokes Cox Plate and against a small field of his own age here in Sydney can’t see him getting beaten again.
