Rosehill Guineas 2021

Saturday March 27, 2021

Note: The 2021 Rosehill Guineas was postponed until Saturday March 27th, 2021 due to heavy rainfall and unsafe track conditions at Rosehill Gardens.

Ladbrokes Tip: The Randwick Guineas – Rosehill Guineas is a popular autumn betting double

The Rosehill Guineas takes place at Rosehill Racecourse in March as part of the elite Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival action on Golden Slipper Stakes Day.

The meeting, usually held on the third Saturday in March, features five top-level races including the Rosehill Guineas run over 2000m for three-year-olds. Run at set weights the colts and geldings in the Rosehill Guineas field carry 56.5kg while the fillies carry 54.5kg.

Many of the three-year-olds in the race come out of the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) contested over 400m less at Randwick a fortnight earlier and the double was last achieved by It’s A Dundeel (2013) and The Autumn Sun (2019).

The Rosehill Guineas is also a nice lead-up into the Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) over the mile and a half on Doncaster Mile Day during The Championships. The last horse to do the Rosehill Guineas – Australian Derby double was Criterion (2014).

The latest edition of the Rosehill Guineas ran on Saturday March 27, 2021 on the rescheduled Golden Slipper Day card in Sydney and was won by the favourite Mo’unga.

Rosehill Guineas Betting Odds

Rosehill Guineas betting odds favour three-year-olds that ran in the Randwick Guineas earlier in the autumn in Sydney or New Zealand gallopers coming out of the NZ Derby.

Favourites have a strong recent record in the Rosehill Guineas with six saluting for the punters in the past decade or, most recently It’s A Dundeel (2013), Tarzino (2016), D’Argento (2018), The Autumn Sun (2019) and Mo’unga (2021).

Three-year-olds displaying staying potential are dominant in the Rosehill Guineas odds as are those drawn in barriers 1 – 8.

The most successful Rosehill Guineas barriers in the past 30 plus years are five and eight. Barrier two also produced back-to-back Rosehill Guineas winners in 2015 and 2016.

Rosehill Guineas Field

The Rosehill Guineas field attracts a varying number of final acceptors each autumn. Low numbers contested the race in 2013 (8) and 2015 (7), while in 2014 the winner Criterion defeated 14 rivals in a 15-starter Rosehill Guineas field.

Rosehill Guineas odds were in favour of the 2016 winner Tarzino

Two races produced all but one of the 12 Rosehill Guineas winners from 2009 – 2021 with the champions coming via either the Group 1 New Zealand Derby (2400m) or the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m).

In 2016 Tarzino came off an Australian Guineas second in Melbourne for his win in the Rosehill Guineas.

While the Rosehill Guineas field is open to both male and female runners, the last filly to beat home the boys in the classic was Riverina Charm back in 1989.

Rosehill Guineas nominations close on a Tuesday in early February, with the final field of acceptances and barrier draw released on the Wednesday of race week.

2021 Rosehill Guineas Field

The new-look Rosehill Guineas 2021 final field sees the Randwick Guineas quinella of Lion’s Roar and Mo’unga do battle again with the latter tipped to turn the tables getting out over the 2000m on Slipper Day.

  • Scratched: #10 Explosive Jack (13) will run in Bendigo’s St. Leger Trial (2200m) in Victoria on Saturday instead.

Rosehill Guineas Tips

Rosehill Guineas tips favour the promising young stayers in the field that come out of the earlier Sydney lead-up run in the Randwick Guineas.

The Randwick Guineas has produced more Rosehill Guineas than any other race and backing the first or second past the post in that mile clash is a good tip when it comes to the second of the Guineas races.

Backing in-form horses drawn inside of barrier eight and avoiding the fillies in the markets based on the historical data are other good Rosehill Guineas tips.

2021 Rosehill Guineas Tips

Our Ladbrokes’ insider Rosehill Guineas 2021 betting tips on the three-year-old autumn staying types to back and sack in the clash this autumn will be detailed below a few days out from the race so bookmark this page.

  • To Win: #5 Grandslam ($7 at time of publish)

It’s always a question of which form line to follow, that from the traditional Sydney lead-up or one from Melbourne? The Randwick Guineas quinella are the dangers, but Grandslam’s Group 2 Alister Clark win over this distance at The Valley last time out was absolutely sensational. The Maher & Eustace colt won by over six lengths and should be right in the finish in Sydney, so long as he handles the Heavy track – the only query.

Rosehill Guineas Form Guide

The Rosehill Guineas form guide shows all the essential information on the field including the jockeys, trainers, barriers and lead-up form of all the horses.

Of the 13 Rosehill Guineas winners from 2009 – 2021 five came off a win, something punters can look for in the form guide.

Also checking out the starting barriers in the Rosehill Guineas form can give a guide to how a horse will perform on race day with just two winners jumping from wider than barrier eight since 2003.

Back-to-back Rosehill Guineas winners jumped from barrier two in 2015 and 2016 so inside draws can be a key thing to keep an eye on in the Group 1 autumn form guide for the race.

Rosehill Guineas Form Facts

  • Criterion (12 of 15 in 2014) is the only Rosehill Guineas winner to jump from wider than barrier eight since 2007
  • No filly has topped the Rosehill Guineas results since 1989
  • Horses coming off a top four run have a dominant recent record in the Rosehill Guineas
  • New Zealand horses have a number of recent Rosehill Guineas victories, often being bred to stay the distance

Rosehill Guineas Results

Single figure runners have dominated the Rosehill Guineas results over the past two decades however upsets of note during that time include De Beers ($17 in 2006) and Sale Of Century ($21 in 2001).

The Rosehill Guineas results and finishing order are known when the Group 1 runs on Golden Slipper Stakes Day each March and also show the winning time, margin, jockey and trainer of the year.

Notable recent Rosehill Guineas winners include The Autumn Sun (2019), Tarzino (2016), Criterion (2014), It’s A Dundeel (2013), Jimmy Choux (2011) and Sky Heights (1999).
