Sheraco Stakes 2021

Saturday September 11, 2021

Ladbrokes Tip: The Sheraco Stakes is a good lead-up to the Golden Pendant

The Sheraco Stakes, named in honour of 1982 Australian Oaks winner Sheraco, is a Group 2 race offering $200,000 in prize money that takes place at Rosehill Racecourse* in mid-September.

*Note: The Sheraco Stakes 2021 ran at Kembla Grange Racecourse due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Part of The Run To The Rose Stakes Day, which is headlined by the Group 2 Run To The Rose for Golden Rose hopefuls, the Sheraco is a 1200m sprint open to fillies and mares.

First run in 1998 the event is contested at set weights plus penalties and serves as a good lead-up into the Group 2 $400,000 Golden Pendant. Mizzy (2019) was the last mare to complete the Sheraco Stakes – Golden Pendant race double.

This season the Sheraco Stakes ran on Saturday September 11, 2021 at Kembla Grange (moved from Rosehill) and was won by the favourite Entriviere from New Zealand.

The Sheraco Stakes betting markets are usually led by horses that ran well at Rosehill the start before in a race like the Toy Show Quality, or first-up performers that have a strong fresh record.

Favourites in the Sheraco Stakes odds have a strong recent record and single-figure fancies have dominated the results over the past decade.

Entriviere ($2.60 in 2021) was the last favourite in Sheraco Stakes betting to win.

Sheraco Stakes Field

The Sheraco Stakes field attracts a quality line-up of fillies and mares eyeing bigger targets over the coming months including the Group 2 Golden Pendant (1400m) run back at the track. Mizzy (2019) was the last winner of both events in a single season.

Female gallopers in the Sheraco Stakes field may come via a lead-up run in the Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1100m) held earlier in the season. Again Mizzy in 2019 won both races.

In 2020 the Sheraco Stakes winner Haut Brion Her franked the form going on to run second in that season’s $1 million Winners Stakes back at Rosehill in November.

  • To Win: #5 Fituese ($7.50 at time of publish)

Going for a bit of value and tipping the widely-drawn Fituese with the fitness edge to win again on the back of her lead-up victory in the fresh in Randwick’s Group 3 Toy Show Quality. She did it from barrier 16 that day so can handle the wider run. Fitter second-up, just needs to extend for that extra little bit of distance.
