The Summoned Stakes is a Group 3 race for mares run and won on Zipping Classic Day at the end of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.
The event is run at set weights plus penalties and offers $200,000 in prize money.
A mile race is now contested over 1600m (formerly 1500m) and takes place on the same day as the Group 2 Zipping Classic (2400m), a race that often attracts stayers out of the Melbourne Cup field.
The other key events on the Zipping Classic Day program include the Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) for three-year-olds, Group 3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes, and the Group 3 Eclipse Stakes.
The Summoned Stakes was first held in 1995 and is named after champion mare and broodmare Summoned who produced five individual Group 1 winners.
The latest edition of the Summoned Stakes ran at Caulfield Racecourse on Saturday December 2nd, 2023 and was won narrowly by the favourite Revolutionary Miss ($3.60F) from the Snowden stable.

- To Win: #7 Lady Jones ($11 at time of publish) – BET NOW
Taking on the favourite in the Summoned Stakes and for value at 10/1 at time of publish have the rails-drawn Lady Jones on top. She’ll get a gun run from that inside alley with Harry Coffey coming aboard the in-form four-year-old. Good posting a narrow Flemington placing last time out and is at the right distance here.
Summoned Stakes Field
The Summoned Stakes race field attracts a quality line-up of end-of-spring mares that may be coming off a tougher lead-up run in a race like the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) at Flemington over the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Recent Summoned Stakes winners to come via the Empire Rose Stakes (formerly the Myer Classic) include Solicit (7th 2015) and Politeness (7th 2014) who also went on to win the following year’s Empire Rose Stakes in 2015.
Missile Mantra (6th in 2020) followed by Steinem (9th in 2021) and My Whisper (10th in 2022) are the latest Empire Rose Stakes graduates to go on and win the Summoned Stakes.
Summoned Stakes nominations are taken the Monday before the race runs on the Saturday with final acceptances and the barrier draw released on the Wednesday.
