The $2 million The Five Diamonds runs in Sydney on the same day as Melbourne’s VRC Champions Stakes
The Five Diamonds is a recently created event that takes place at the end of the very lucrative Sydney Spring Racing Carnival and which gained Listed status ahead of the 2024 edition.

It is held at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse on the Saturday after the Melbourne Cup, which is currently known as VRC Champions Stakes Day at Flemington.
Added to the spring line-up by Racing NSW for the first time in 2022 along with the The Big Dance (1600m), which runs on Melbourne Cup Day and is now worth $3 million as of 2023, The Five Diamonds offers an impressive $2 million in stakes.
The Five Diamonds is a set weights plus penalties race run over 1800m and is only open to horses aged five-years-old that may otherwise have been heading to the breeding barn.
It is an excellent target for the previous season’s four-year-olds who contested the now $10 million The Golden Eagle (1500m) the spring prior.
The Five Diamonds runs on the same card as the Group 3 $1 million Golden Gift (1100m) for two-year-olds.
The third edition of the now Listed The Five Diamonds ran on Saturday November 9, 2024 at Rosehill Gardens on the Saturday after the Melbourne Cup and saw the James Cummings-trained Pericles ($20) score a narrow upset.

The Five Diamonds Field
The Five Diamonds race field features the season’s top performing five-year-old horses that may otherwise have headed to Melbourne for a run in a race like the weight-for-age Group 1 Champions Stakes (2000m) held at Flemington on the same day.
There is a 14-starter limit to The Five Diamonds field.
Potential lead-up races into The Five Diamonds field include: the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m), the Group 2 Hill Stakes (1900m), the Group 3 Craven Plate (1800m), or the Rosehill Gold Cup (2000m) on The Golden Eagle Day.

- To Win: #3 Lindermann ($9 at time of publish) – BET NOW
Wide open edition of Sydney’s Five Diamonds on Saturday but happy to stick with Chris Waller’s Group 1 winner Lindermann after his return to winning form last time out. The son of Lonhro won last year’s Rosehill Guineas but has been in the winner’s stall just twice since. Fresh he was flat in the $1.5 million Alan Brown when 15th at 30/1 from a wide alley. He atoned in the Group 3 Craven Plate (1800m) at Randwick when saluting narrowly to defeat Spirit Ridge with 59kg. He’s a three-time Rosehill winner from four starts here, presents fit and back in confidence now third-up, and the ‘Magic Man’ Joao Moreira rides. Can win.
The Five Diamonds Bet Types
Win – The most basic type of bet. Put your money straight up on the runner that you think will win The Five Diamonds.
Place – Pick the horse that you think will finish in the top three positions but at lower odds.
Each-Way – Put equal amounts on a horse for the win and a place, the equivalent of two bets and you get paid out for both if it wins.
Quinella – Bet on the horses you think will finish first and second in either order. You can also pick for example one horse to finish 1st and then a combination. The fewer horses you pick the greater the dividend.
Exacta – An exacta also involves choosing horses that you think will finish first and second but it differs from a quinella in that it has to be the exact order you specify in the bet.
Trifecta – Very similar to an Exacta, but for the first, second and third placings in the correct finishing order. You can also Box Trifecta to finish in any of the first 3 combinations.
First Four – A First Four bet works the same as an Exacta and Trifecta but for the first four runners in finishing order.
