The Triscay Stakes serves as a potential lead-up to the autumn Group 1 races for mares.
The Triscay Stakes race is a Group 3 thoroughbred event run and won at the iconic Royal Randwick Racecourse in mid-February ahead of the coveted Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.
A quality handicap sprint taking place over 1200m, the Triscay is open only to mares aged four and above and has held Group 3 status since 2014.
It is a key lead-up to tougher grade autumn events for the female gallopers and currently offers $250,000 in total prize money.
The Triscay Stakes runs on Apollo Stakes Day that also features the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m), Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m), and the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m).
Inaugurated in 1995 the event is named in honour of former top line filly Triscay, best known for her success in the 1991 Queensland Guineas and Queensland Oaks during her three-year-old season.
The best mares out of the Triscay may continue onto targets like the Group 1 $1 million Coolmore Classic (1500m) the following month.
The latest edition of the Triscay Stakes ran at Randwick on Saturday, February 17, 2024 as part of the Apollo Stakes Day card and was won in a photo-finish by Ciaron Maher’s Magic Millions Cup winning daughter of Winning Rupert Semana ($4.40).

The latest Triscay Stakes betting favourites to win are Tailleur ($1.35 in 2021) and Snapdancer ($2.90 in 2022).

Triscay Stakes Tips
Triscay Stakes tips include looking for mares out of the a lead-up run at the track, those with a solid Sydney race record, and short-distance performers that will enjoy the 1200m early in the autumn.
Backing mares drawn in barriers 4-6 is a key Triscay Stakes betting tip with more winners from these three gates than any others over the race’s history.
There has only been one Triscay Stakes winner since 2011 to jump from a double-digit gate with Faraway Town (barrier 10, 2018).

- To Win: #7 Penthouse ($12 at time of publish) – BET NOW
Going for an upset in the Triscay and have the in-form Penthouse on top at double-figures. Matthew Dale’s progressive Capitalist mare is showing form around this grade at the right time. She is proven at the track, was an eye-catching first-up winner at Rosehill in easier company with plenty of weight by a big margin, and was far from disgraced last time out for a Group 3 Geoffrey Bellmaine second at Caulfield. Drops from 56kg there to 54kg, gun barrier four draw, and Kerrin McEvoy rides. Can surprise.

The 2022 Triscay Stakes also provided that year’s The Invitation champion with Promise Of Success improving on a second in the autumn Group 3 to claim the lucrative October event.
The 2022 winner Snapdancer further franked the form with success in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville in May. Her other good, subsequent runs included a Group 1 Tatt’s Tiara (1400m) second tin the winter and Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) first in Melbourne over the spring.
