Ladbrokes Tip: The T.S. Carlyon Cup can serve as a potential lead-up into the Group 1 Australian Cup
The T.S. Carlyon Cup is a Group 3 race run over a mile (1600m) at Caulfield Racecourse each February as part of CF Orr Stakes Day.
The opening Group 1 meeting of the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival, CF Orr Stakes Day features a host of Group support races including the TS Carlyon Cup for four-year-olds and over.
Contested at set weights plus penalties, the event offers $200,000 and has been run and won since 1977.
The better horses out of the race may target the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington the following month and Manighar (2012) is the last horse to complete the TS Carlyon Cup – Australian Cup double.
The latest edition of the T.S. Carlyon Cup ran on Saturday February 12, 2022 as part of CF Orr Stakes Day in Melbourne and was won by European import Earlswood ($13) in an upset over former Kiwi star Callsign Mav who carried the top-weight and returning Melbourne Cup third placegetter Spanish Mission.

TS Carlyon Cup Tips
TS Carlyon Cup tips include backing the better performed Group 1 types in the field, those with a good record over the 1600m distance and runners aged five and above with the four-year-olds having little recent luck in the event.
Another good TS Carlyon Cup betting tips is to avoid any mares in the line-up with Miss Siska (2020) the first female galloper to beat home the boys in the race since 2005.

- To Win: #3 Yonkers ($13 at time of publish)
Wide open race if you’re not on the fit favourite and at double-figures over the mile fresh, Yonkers certainly looks attractive at 12/1. Loves the track and is three-from-four at Caulfield. Great 1600m record for the forgotten Waller runner (6:2-3-0) whose last run was that devastatingly close Ballarat Cup second over 2000m with 60kg. Small field, Damien Oliver riding and a Group 2 winner fresh last time in at Rosehill over 1500m so looks well-placed in a race where the stars are probably needing a touch further.
