Ladbrokes Tip: The Zeditave Stakes can serve as a potential lead-up into Sydney’s Group 2 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint in the autumn.
The Zeditave Stakes is a Group 3 sprint for three-year-olds taking place in late February at Caulfield Racecourse* on Blue Diamond Stakes Day.
*Note: The 2023 Zeditave Stakes and entire Blue Diamond Stakes race card took place at Sandown with renovations happening at Caulfield.
Run and won over 1200m, the set weights plus penalties showdown offers $200,000 in prize money and takes place on the same day as three Group 1 races headlined by the $2 million Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) for two-year-olds.
First conducted in 1989 the race has held Group 3 status since 2014 and is named in honour of Zeditave who won the 1988 Blue Diamond Stakes and the 1989 Futurity Stakes – another Group 1 race run at the same meeting.
It was previously restricted to the three-year-old colts and geldings but is now also open to fillies once again.
The latest edition of the Zeditave Stakes ran on Saturday February 24, 2024 as part of Caulfield’s Blue Diamond Stakes Day card with Written Tycoon gelding Raikoke ($10) good at big odds to remain undefeated.

Zeditave Stakes Betting
Zeditave Stakes odds and betting markets favour the season’s in-form three-year-olds with previous Group race experience and those with a good record at the track and distance.
Last start winners have a strong record in the race so any three-year-olds coming off a lead-up victory sit higher up the Zeditave Stakes betting markets.
In recent years Raikoke (2024), Recommendation (2023), Oxley Road (2021), He’ll Haunt Us (2020), and Terbium (2019) all came off a win ahead of their Zeditave Stakes victories.
Favourites in Zeditave Stakes betting have a decent recent record with Overshare ($3.80 in 2018) and Oxley Road ($2.50 in 2021) the latest to salute for the punters.
Raikoke ($10 in 2024) scored an upset win to become the latest Zeditave Stakes winner at double-figures.
Zeditave Stakes Field
The Zeditave Stakes race field attracts a quality line-up of three-year-olds, many of which are kicking off their Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival campaigns.
If not resuming for the autumn, the Zeditave Stakes field is likely to feature graduates out of the summer races at Flemington and or Magic Millions Day runners from Queensland.
Another good lead-up race into the Zeditave Stakes field is the Group Manfred Stakes (1200m). Denman (2010) was the last runner to complete the Manfred Stakes – Zeditave Stakes double.
The best out of the Zeditave Stakes field may head up to Sydney for the Group 2 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint (1200m) during ‘The Championships’.
In 2023 Wee Nessy was runner-up in the Zeditave and also finished second in that year’s $1 million Arrowfield Sprint results.
Zeditave Stakes nominations close the Monday before the race with the final field of acceptances and barrier draw released on the Wednesday.

Zeditave Stakes Tips
Good Zeditave Stakes tips include backing last-start winners coming off a Melbourne victory over the summer in similar grade and backing single-figure fancies in betting with few winners saluting at long odds.
It is also worth looking at the runners in barriers 2 and 6 when doing your Zeditave Stakes tipping as these two gates have produced six winners each since 1999.
2024 Zeditave Stakes Tips
Our Ladbrokes’ insider Zeditave Stakes 2024 tips and betting selections will be available for punters below the week of the race sorting the best from the rest in the race for three-year-olds.
- To Win: #6 Wolfy ($13 at time of publish) – BET NOW
Putting faith in Wolfy to bounce back after Nick Ryan’s Tivaci colt backed up from two good runs to finish a somewhat disappointing 11th here in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) last prep. That was a huge step-up in grade and he didn’t quite make the grade. This is easier, he’s fresh, and he’s a dual place-getter at the distance. Can surprise.
Zeditave Stakes Form Guide
The Zeditave Stakes form guide lists all the important facts and stats on the runners in the event including jockeys, trainers, barriers, weights, track/distance records and win/place rates.
The Zeditave Stakes form has gone on to stack-up in better races a number of times over the years including in 2017 when the third place-getter Derryn continued on to win that autumn’s Group 2 Arrowfield Sprint in Sydney.
In 2021 the Zeditave Stakes winner Oxley Road would go on to win the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1200m) that spring.
