To Win: No. 1 Rey Magnerio
REY MAGNERIO (4) looks a genuine value play in what shapes as a winnable edition of the Caulfield Sprint. Robbie Griffiths’ Magnus gelding resumes off a solid first-up record (3:2-0-1) and returns to a track he knows well, with two wins and four placings from eight starts at Caulfield. He hasn’t won since claiming the Group 2 Rubiton Stakes here in the autumn, but he backed that up with a sharp third in the Oakleigh Plate behind Jimmysstar — who’s now a live Everest chance in Sydney. His form tapered off a touch after that, but fresh he’s a different beast, and despite carrying the 59kg topweight, he’s well-rated, drawn to get a run, and has the turn of foot to give this a serious shake at a nice price.
