Robbie Griffiths’ underrated Caulfield specialist and Group 1 Oakleigh Plate placegetter from the autumn, Rey Magnerio ($7.50) returned in style producing a huge late finish off a patient ride by Jye McNeil to head the 2025 Caulfield Sprint results. Still sixth on the home turn, the six-year-old marvel was then badly held up on the straight before finally getting a split 50m out from the line to charge through and salute in another deserving Group 2 victory. Griffiths is unsure if Rey Magnerio will be up to the challenge of the Group 1 $3 million Champions Sprint at Flemington on November 8 but said he will enter him for the event and wait to see.

Caulfield Sprint Tips

Good Caulfield Sprint tips include looking for runners that won’t find the short sprint too sharp, previous Group 1 / 2 performers coming off good spring form in Melbourne and those drawn close to the fence.

Favourites and runners under $10 in Caulfield Sprint betting also have a gun record in the race over the past decade so backing the top fancies in the markets is another tip to take to the bookies.

2025 Caulfield Sprint Tips

Our Ladbrokes’ insider Caulfield Sprint 2025 betting tips and Group 2 Caulfield Sprint racing selections will be detailed below the week of the race so stay tuned for the sprinters to back and sack this spring.

To Win: No. 1 Rey Magnerio

REY MAGNERIO (4) looks a genuine value play in what shapes as a winnable edition of the Caulfield Sprint. Robbie Griffiths’ Magnus gelding resumes off a solid first-up record (3:2-0-1) and returns to a track he knows well, with two wins and four placings from eight starts at Caulfield. He hasn’t won since claiming the Group 2 Rubiton Stakes here in the autumn, but he backed that up with a sharp third in the Oakleigh Plate behind Jimmysstar — who’s now a live Everest chance in Sydney. His form tapered off a touch after that, but fresh he’s a different beast, and despite carrying the 59kg topweight, he’s well-rated, drawn to get a run, and has the turn of foot to give this a serious shake at a nice price.

Caulfield Sprint Form Guide

The Caulfield Sprint form guide provides punters with crucial information and statistics like the track / distance record of the runners in the race along with their jockeys, trainers and barriers.

Mares have a good recent record in the race with Snitty Kitty (2017), Miss Leonidas (2019), Asfoora (2022), and Estriella (2024) the latest to salute, following on from Lumosty (=1st in 2015) and Miracles Of Life (=1st in 2014), so looking for the in-form female gallopers on the Caulfield Sprint form guide can prove profitable for punters.

Caulfield Sprint form has stacked up in better spring races a number of times in recent times including in 2011 when Sepoy won the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) next start as a three-year-old at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup Carnival. The last Caulfield Sprint winner to run top three in the Darley Classic in the same year was Sunburnt Land (3rd in 2008).

The 2022 Caulfield Sprint form was franked with the winner Asfoora going on to win a Group 3 at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup Carnival before returning in the following autumn to run third in the 2023 Oakleigh Plate, fourth in the Group 1 The Galaxy and then run fourth in the first edition of Perth’s $4 million The Quokka race.
