VILLIERS STAKES (Randwick R7)

There’s no doubt Darren Weir has had the magic touch and punters think he’ll bring that up to Sydney tomorrow for the Villiers Stakes.

Puccini, having its second start for the Melbourne Cup winning trainer, has clearly been the best backed runner in the race after an eye catching 2nd placing in the Eclipse when he was caught wide throughout. He’s firmed from $15 into $12.

Happy Clapper holds favouritism and has firmed from $4.80 to $4.60 with some serious money also heading in its direction.

Zanbagh is another which has been backed at odds, with smart money seeing it wound in to $13 having opened $17.

It’s Somewhat has been easy out from $8 to $10, while Ninth Legion ($21.00 – $34), Telepathic ($6 – $7) and God’s In Him ($8 – $9) have also been on the drift.

BIG BET

Happy Clapper –  $1,500 @ $4.80

RAZOR SHARP HANDICAP (Randwick R8)

Now with John Sargent, Aussies Love Sport was an impressive winner in a recent trial and it seems punters have been keeping an eye on the trials and have reacted accordingly. A winner last start before his spell, the five year old gelding has been backed from $11 into $9.

There has been a fair bit of specking for another horse having its first start for a new stable with Territory backed from $51 into $31. Race favourite Dublin Lass has been a little easy, $2.80 out to $3.20.

Gai Waterhouse trained mare, Echo Gal, has also been a slight drifter out from $5 to $6.

BIG BET

Aussies Love Sport – $2,500 @ $10.00

WESTERN HEALTH FOUNDATION HCP (Flemington R8)

It has been a while between wins for Sistine Demon but after a promising third when resuming last start, he looks ready to return to the winner’s stall and the market support has echoed that with the 6-year-old backed from $7 in to $5.

Very little has been backed to beat him at this stage with Durendal ($4 -$4.40), Churchill Dancer ($5.50 – $6), Nicoscene ($9 – $12) and Boomwaa $15 – $17) all on the drift.

BIG BET

Sistine Demon  $1,000 @ $6.50

LOUGH NEAGH STAKES (Doomben R8)

The feature race in the north of the country this weekend, the Lough Neagh Stakes at Doomben has attracted very little interest in the early markets.

While the money will undoubtedly come closer to race time, Fontelina ($6 – $5.50) and Gundy Spirit ($12 – $10) have been the only farmers while Saluter ($5.50 – $6) and Temple Of Boom ($12 – $13) have drifted marginally.

BIG BET

Fontelina – $500 @ $6.00
