We’re still in that period where we have to hunt around for the best races and the weather around the country at the moment isn’t make things a lot easier. There has been some reasonable pushes for some horses in Melbourne especially tomorrow but with a slow to heavy track on the cards given the rain down south of late, who knows how punters will fare. The best we can do is follow the money trail …

FLEMINGTON, RACE 8
It might be best known as the home town of the loveable AFL and media favourite, Bill Brownless but Jerilderie has also been on the lips of punters this week as they rush to back JERILDERIE LETTER in the benchmark 90 race at Flemington. A tasmanian horse, not from the NSW riverina town, he drops from 60kg to 54kg and will relish the weight difference. The step up in class from an age handicap to open company benchmark 90 is the query but with his main rivals, SPREADEAGLED and AWARD OF MERIT scratched, only bad luck looks like it can beat him. He’s $5 into $2.35 due to a combination of money and deductions from scratching. Short, but most likely sweet.
It is a race where there doesn’t appear to be a lot of speed with LORD DURANTE one to push forward with VOLCANIC ASH likely to take up a handy position from a good barriers.

Jerilderie Letter – $3k @ $4.40
FLEMINGTON, RACE 6
One way traffic punting on this race with 90 per cent of Ladbrokes hold on this one on VOODOO LAD.
It looks an ideal race for the Darren Weir trained four year old who got good experience down the iconic straight last start, when a narrowly beaten second behind RUETTIGER. He’s solid around the $1.80 mark.
VILLOPOTO has been fancied at a good price and subsequently firmed from $20 into $13 and back out to $15.
Hard to work out a speed map in these straight races but RICH JACK is likely to be at the front of the pack with VILLOPOTO and VOODOO LAD not to far away from the lead.

Voodoo Lad – $4k @ $1.95
DOOMBEN, RACE 7
A listed race with what looks some good speed on paper, FLAMBOYER is likely to kick up and lead from barrier one.
He is the biggest firmer in the race, $5 into $4.50 as he aims for three wins in succession.
The five year old is in career best form and also has in form jockey Jeff Lloyd on board, which is another big tick.
HI SON ($12 into $9.50) will sit very handy to the lead from barrier 2 as well with BRETTAN ($9.50 into $8.50) likely to work forward as well.
Old boy STEEL ZIP is $14 into $12 after flashing home for 3rd in the Ramornie on July 13.
