The Bachelor Review – Episode 13

The girls went on a group date to kick start this episode and it was awks from beginning to end.

The task was to get the girls to rate themselves from best to worst in certain categories, and Elora was absolutely shameless.

She had lost her power over Matty when he rejected her pash last week, so she saw this as a chance for redemption.

When rating who the funniest girl was, Tara won and everyone was ok with that, but Elora was annoyed at where she ended up.

“I do think I’m funnier than Laura,” Elora said.

When asked who was the most down to earth, Elora ran forward thinking that was her jam.

Tara was having none of that.

“Just because you burn sage and run around the house with it doesn’t make you down to earth.”

Elora’s desperation morphed into humiliation when she tried to vote herself the most positive girl in the house.

“She just stood there like a ton of bricks. Like the statue of liberty, she just stood there,” Tara said.

She didn’t give up though. She tried again when they were asked who was the most considerate girl.

Florence was completely baffled.

“As far as I know you did try to kiss our boyfriend at the cocktail party. That is not considerate,” Florence said.

Then they had to try to guess Matty’s relationship deal breakers.

One by one they were read out.

A girl who doesn’t want kids.

Cheating.

Lying.

Stubbornness. (Something Elora just demonstrated she has in spades.)

Bad manners.

Being incompatible in the bedroom.

Elise and Elora made it through to the last challenge, and they were asked to write down their feelings about Matty and what they want for the future.

As Elise pondered what to write, she pulled out a packet of ‘Extra’ chewing gum to help her think.

That was some next level product placement. ($$$)

Her minty breath proved the difference and she won some one-on-one time with Matty.

As we’ve come to expect, Elora was gracious in defeat.

“I wanted to be happy for Elise but I’m not,” Elora said.

Elise and Matty went off and things got weird after that.

It seems like because the CBS deal hasn’t been completely confirmed yet, Channel 10 has had to get some sponsors involved to keep this show going, with Nova’s Red Room hosting the date at Marquee Nightclub. ($$$)

Inside, James Blunt was there to perform for them.

And shock horror, he chose to play his new single. ($$$)

And only his new single.

So, I’m estimating the date went for just over three minutes.

They had a dance and a pash before James Blunt got up and said, “Go on then.”

It was a verbal mic drop.

Then it went to an ad break where, surprise, surprise, there was a promo for James Blunt’s new single. ($$$)

Matty then took Cobie on a single date at some kind of jungle gym so that he could prey on her fear of heights before cracking open a beer with her to have a laugh about it.

WHOOP WHOOP! FRIEND ZONE! Cobie is the only girl so far to share a beer with him.

She was doomed.

“It’s kind of like hanging out with a really good friend where you have a laugh all the time,” Matty said.

Oh god, it was cringe worthy.

She still went on believing she was in it, and he almost had to physically grab her beating heart and pull it out of her chest for her to believe it wasn’t going to happen.

If you’re looking for a cartoon analogy, it was like when Lisa Simpson broke Ralph Wiggins’ heart.

It was slow and painful, and as always, Matty’ take on the night’s events were particularly insightful.

“I always knew that the hardest part would be to hurt someone’s feelings.”

Then it was time for the cocktail party. There was no time to mingle with Matty, they just went straight for the rose ceremony/jugular.

Elora was cooked.

That cloak of desperation did her no favours. She acted like a girl scorned in a nightclub. You know the one. The girl who spends the entire night dirty dancing and pretending to have fun, all while keeping an eye on her crush to try and get his attention.

It rarely works in the wild, and in this controlled setting, it highlighted her slightly unhinged obsession with him.

That vibe terrifies men. It screams stage five clinger and he had to get rid of her.

“I feel heartbroken,” Elora said.

“I just don’t understand, it doesn’t make sense to me … I really thought it was going somewhere.”

Even as her limo drove off I could imagine her texting him to desperately see if he would change his mind, before sending a whole bunch of abusives, like the drunk girl at the nightclub would.
