I love Stakes Day. We have a REALLY SWISH (Race 1, number 8) set up in the car park at Flemington and it’s a real good MEET AND GREET (Race 2, number 8) kind of event with friends and family as the carnival winds down. IT’S SOMEWHAT (Race 8, number 2) sad that the past few weeks of racing is winding down but in saying that it’s a real SENSE OF OCCASION (Race 8, number 5) to celebrate what’s been an outstanding Spring Carnival.
I haven’t really been able to RAISE THE ROOF (Race 1, number 12) with any groundbreaking tips of recent but if you GIVE US A GO (Race 4, number 14) I might bring you some good luck. I’ve been able to SPEARHEAD (Race 4, number 5) the focus on puns this spring racing season.
Coming along to Stakes Day is TIGER TIM (Race 2, number 7) who is my mate who barracks for Richmond. He’s KNOWABLE (Race 2, number 8) for his love of the Tigers and is still celebrating their premiership win. He’s joining us in the carpark this Saturday and being a MAN OF HIS WORD (Race 3, number 2) Tim has promised he won’t wear his Richmond jumper to the races. Although, knowing his RAW IMPULSE (Race 3, number 3) tendencies I wouldn’t put it beyond him. He also wants a say in the TUNES (Race 5, number 9) we play at the party so I wouldn’t put it beyond him if “Oh We’re From Tigerland” gets a run.
Also coming along his my hipster Melbourne mate from work – Stanley, he works in the PAYROLL (Race 6, number 5) department. Stanley lives in the cool inner-city Melbourne suburb of Brunswick and he’s known to all of us as the DUKE OF BRUNSWICK (Race 4, number 6). You know, he’s one of those guys who considers himself to be a real COOL CHAP (Race 5, number 5) and there’s no doubt he’ll be in some vintage outfit he bought at an op-shop. He’s one of those guys that considers himself to be a real punting expert this time of the year but he’s as SMART AS YOU THINK (Race 6, number 8). He doesn’t even know how a Quaddie works.
With Stakes Day being a family day my Mother will be there as well. IN HER TIME (Race 7, number 12) Mum was great at backing winners but she hasn’t had the best of luck in recent years. I guess her IMPENDING (Race 7, number 6) court trial is getting to her and she’s CLEARLY INNOCENT (Race 7, number 12) but when you’re around her it’s like seeing someone on a CLIFF’S EDGE (Race 8, number 5) at the moment.
It’s become somewhat of a tradition with our crew after Stakes Day to head to KFC after we finish up at the track. Nothing beats TREKKING (Race 9, number 7) down Flemington Road and smelling that KENTUCKY BREEZE (Race 9, number 10) only to immerse in some dirty bird. The taste is HEAVENS ABOVE (Race 6, number 1) after a few sherberts or two at the races.
It’s been a great Carnival.
