Greyhounds will soon be racing for prizemoney more associated with top class horses as Ladbrokes and Greyhound Racing New South Wales join forces to create, The Million Dollar Chase.
As the name of the event indicates, greyhounds will contest the right to race for a $1,000,000 cash prize in the series grand final at Wentworth Park on October 20, in what will be the richest dog race in the world.
“This is the kind of event which will thrust greyhound racing into the sporting spotlight and give hard working trainers the chance to race for life changing prizemoney,” Ladbrokes Australian Chief Executive Jason Scott said.
The event will be staged across regional and metropolitan NSW, with a series of qualifying races in 11 regional areas and Sydney culminating in a grand final at Wentworth Park.
The event is certain to attract the best greyhounds from not only New South Wales but across the country with the winner to be crowned the world’s champion greyhound.
“This sort of prizemoney will attract the absolute best dogs. Each heat will be a star-studded affair and you can bet the overall winner will be a top class ‘dish licker’ soon to be licking a gold-plated dish,” Scott said.
Wentworth Park will host 14 City Qualifying Finals over three race meetings, while the regional qualifiers to be held across 11 tracks.
All qualifiers will take place in September with the best 64 dogs getting through to the quarter final stage.
