PUNTER’S PAL
In the shortened round, the punters got off to a great start with the biggest successful go of the weekend being for the Panthers against the Sea Eagles on Thursday night.
In total, two of the four favourites (Panthers and Eels) won, with both covering their respective lines but with the absence of talent due to Origin, the round was a low scoring slog as just one of four match total marks were covered.
Ladbrokes ‘Footy Freaks’ offers were a hit, with Dylan Edwards to score a try and Panthers to win and Clinton Gutherson to score a try and Eels win, both well found.
BOOKIE’S BEST
It was a tough weekend for the bookies with just one result falling in Ladbrokes favour.
Whilst we did see a move for the Eels, the money wasn’t with Ladbrokes and the Rabbitohs were actually a worse result for Team Red, meaning Parramatta’s 12-point victory proved a small win for Ladbrokes.
FIRST TRY FRUSTRATION
Whilst there were no outlandish odds on first try scorers across the weekend, the only one which the punters beat the bookies on was in the final match of the round, when Dale Copley crossed first at $8.
Others to salute at reasonable NRL odds but relatively unfound were; Dylan Edwards (Panthers) $12, Clinton Gutherson (Eels) $11 and Sebastian Kris (Raiders) $16.
MULTI MAGIC
Given just the four games were played, it is not a huge surprise that Ladbrokes can report there were no successful multis placed which we feel warrant a place in this column.
BACKING THE FUTURE
The main futures markets remained relatively unchanged given so few teams were in action and those that were had top level talent absent due to Origin.
And, in terms of Origin, it is become very clear that Ladbrokes will be cheering for New South Wales as punters continue to throw their money behind the Maroons.
They opened last week at $2.15, are into $2 and is looking like by the time kick off comes we may be at ‘pick em’.
First try bets have come early as well with Corey Oates already is easily Ladbrokes worst result.
