We’ll be treated to seven races down the Flemington straight on Friday for the third Rapid Racing meeting.

The rail will be set out 12 metres and at publish, the track is rated in the Good (4) range.

Race 1 - 3:30pm AEDT

Tick Homes Plate (1000m)

Plenty of horses engaged in the first will be making their competitive debuts and Oxley Road, a filly trained by Peter Moody, has opened a clear favourite.

I am happy to sit back and watch this race, with a view towards something later in the season.

Race 2 - 4pm AEDT

Firstly Home Sprint (1000m)

Diesel ‘n’ Dust hasn’t been seen at the races since August, but he looks to have a class edge over most of his rivals in Race 2 at Flemington on Friday, and he can make a winning return.

The three-year-old son of Pride Of Dubai has only recorded one race win from eight starts since making his debut, but he was a model of consistency last time and didn’t miss placing in his five most-recent outings.

Dean Yendall should be about to get some cover from the wide draw and the horse can finish over the top of his rivals.

Race 3 - 4:30pm AEDT

Winslow Constructors Dash (1000m)

Modear has returned some lovely efforts this preparation and strikes another winnable contest at Flemington on Friday.

Having won in BM64 company at Ladbrokes Park when resuming, the Helmet mare finished fifth behind the likes of Riding The Wave here at HQ before filling the minors in BM78 company last time out.

She gets into this race well under the conditions and is further boosted by the booking of Craig Williams.

Race 4 - 5pm AEDT

Eynesbury Golf Plate (1100m)

This looms as one of the more open contests on the card and I am going to have something small on the resuming Beaverbrook, each way.

Beaverbrook has tended to mix his form a little during his recent preparations, but his best runs seem to come earlier in his preparations, and he is a winner first-up previously.

With Damien Oliver in the saddle and from the good draw, I think he has claims at around the $16 mark.

Race 5 - 5:30pm AEDT

Eynesbury Estate Sprint (1200m)

Another open affair and a horse like Zion is up to winning, at a lovely price ($6.50 at publish).

Zion recorded an eye-catching win to break his maiden at Bendigo when resuming in November and his two runs in the wake have been spaced; an impressive third, beaten just over a head by Written Miss here at HQ, and an out of character run at Caulfield that saw him finish down the order.

He looks to be at peak fitness for Friday’s appearance and I am happy to give him another chance.

Race 6 - 6pm AEDT

PSP Property Group Sprint (1200m)

Alburq boasts a class edge over most of his rivals in the penultimate race at Flemington on Friday and he can return to winning form.

The Rubick gelding hasn’t been far from the winner in three starts back this time, and he was last seen finishing off well for fourth in BM84 company at this track and distance.

Craig Williams has options from the rails draw and the $4.80 available for the horse at publish looks over the odds.

Race 7 - 6:30pm AEDT

Resimax Group Jockeys Challenge Trophy (1200m)

A tough way to end the card from a betting perspective and a case to be made for several, but I’m happy to have something on the progressive My Best Effort at the price ($6.50 at publish).

My Best Effort has tuned up with two fair efforts back this time, but in city company, and there’s little doubt that she’ll relish racing down the straight, and the small rise in trip.
