You’ve probably just seen the footage of Scottie Scheffler putting on the famous green jacket after winning the Masters this morning.
The World Number 1 took the lead after Round 2 at Augusta and didn’t look back, finishing 10 under after four rounds. His finish at the 18th will go down as one of the most famous double bogies of all time as fans all around the world took a bit of comfort out of watching the best in the world four putt his way to victory.
Unless you are an absolute golfing nuffy, it is reasonable to not know a huge deal about Scheffler. The American has skyrocketed up the PGA rankings in recent times, having only been ranked #1 for two weeks at the time of writing.
Here’s 10 things you probably didn’t know about Scottie Scheffler, keep these up your sleeve next time you’re in the Pro Shop at your local course.
1. Don’t Mess With Texas
While being born in Ridgewood, New Jersey, Scheffler and his family moved to Dallas at a young age. It was there in the Lone Star State that Scottie picked up golf. He played through high school and then committed to the University of Texas.
During his time playing for the Longhorns, he helped them win the Big 12 Championship three times between 2014-2018. In 2015 he was named “Phil Mickelson Freshman of the Year”.
2. He Has 4 PGA Tour Wins
All four of his Tour wins have come in 2022 alone. These include the WM Phoenix Open, Arnold Palmer Invitational, WGC Dell Technologies Match Play and a little tournament called the Masters.
It’s fair to say he’s in a bit of form this year, at the start of 2022 Scheffler was ranked 14th in the world and now he is comfortably the World #1.
3. He Is The Second Youngest Player To Hit 59 On Tour
Way back in 2020 when he was just a rookie. Scheffler became the 11th player ever on The PGA Tour to shoot a 59. Scheffler managed to pull this off during the second round of the Northern Trust at TPC Boston and golf fans knew that there was something special about this young golfer.
4. His Favourite TV Show is The Office
Was Michael Scott the key to Scheffler’s Masters win? We can’t rule it out.
After finishing Round 3, Scheffler said his plan to unwind before the final day was to binge watch the iconic tv show.

5. He Has Five Hole In Ones
His first came when he was in High School, he also hit one on tour at the AT&T Byron Nelson. The feat that every golfer wishes to accomplish once in their lifetime. The world number one has done five times over.
It’s just not fair is it?
6. He Loves His Basketball
Scheffler represented Highland Park High School as a golfer but also as a hooper.
Scottie has said in interviews that he still tries to play pick up basketball as much as possible and believes that Michael Jordan is the greatest athlete of all time.
7. He Is The 9th Youngest To Win A Green Jacket
At only 25 years old, you’d think that not many people would have achieved Masters glory at such a young age but you would be mistaken.
Scheffler at 25 years, 9 months and 20 days is the 9th youngest to win the Masters.
8. He Is The Fourth Person To Win The Masters While Being Ranked #1
Scheffler joins some pretty elite company with his win today. Only Ian Woosnam (1991), Fred Couples (1992), Tiger Woods (2001,2012) and Dustin Johnson (2020) have won the famous tournament while being the best in the world.
9. He Went To The Same High School As Matthew Stafford
While they never shared the halls together, both Superbowl LVI Champion and Masters winner attended Highland Park High School.
In 2005, Stafford lead the “Scots” to their only undeafeated football season in the program’s history and beat Marshall 59-0 in the State Championships to set a local record for the highest margin of victory in a state championship game.
I’d imagine the school might name something after the two champs if they haven’t already.
10. He Married His High School Sweetheart
Scheffler met now wife Meredith during high school and have been together for six years.
The pair went to rival colleges. Scottie University of Texas and Meredith Texas A&M, the pair got engaged and also tied the knot in 2020.
