Bee Gees Best charged to the lead here last week and put up a huge early margin on the field in a blistering opening half before getting very sleepy in the stretch to finish third behind Mister Domingo, who he meets once more today.
He should pounce on the front again from the nice gate and providing he settles better this time around he is sure to take catching.
Waterline is a handy filly who has had two runs back from a break and although not disgraced in either, it’s fair to say she has been a little disappointing since resuming.
The key today is the front row draw.
She has drawn the back line at her two efforts this time in and with her good gate speed she should be able to put herself into a winning position, perhaps even take up the running.
It is D-Day for her today, but if she’s ever going to win a race this campaign it is now.
First of all, this is an absolute raffle so tread warily, but there looks to be some pace off the front line and it might play into the hands of a swooper, so with that in mind, Beyonski is worthy of a ticket each way.
She finished off nicely to win a race at Redcliffe back in early January and has been around the mark in similar grade to this of late, including a solid second on this circuit last week behind Risky Buziness.
She’ll need some luck in running from the draw over the short course but watch for her to be hitting the line hard out wide if the race is run to suit.
A Whole Lotta Rosie has done the majority of her racing this campaign in Mares Qualifying grade on the Saturday night circuit, so she should appreciate this type of race today.
She went around in a similar race to this last week and although a tad disappointing when running fourth behind Looks Just Right, that was her first outing for nearly six weeks so she may have just needed that hit out.
Improved fitness, a nice second line trailing draw and she’s right in the race this afternoon.
Another open contest on the program here and luck in running will play a huge part in the outcome.
Sunrise Ruby might be the one to beat, as she has the gate speed to put herself into the fight early on and then will have options available to her thereafter.
She was down the track in Mares grade on this circuit last time, but her form at Redcliffe prior was excellent and she can take the next step.
No Motive resumed from a break here last week and ran a really encouraging third behind Peppa Bliss, who she meets again today, without having a great deal go her way.
From a map perspective, there isn’t a great deal of pace to her inside and it wouldn’t surprise to see her charge over to lead, but she has proven last campaign she is a versatile type and can win from anywhere.
One out she is easily the best horse in this race and with any luck in running they will have a hard time beating her second up.
Quite a strong line up here over the short course and an interesting newcomer to QLD in Back In Twenty to keep an eye on from the extreme draw too, but the horse they have to beat is clearly Alta Revelry.
He gets Pete McMullen back in the gig today, but he had been racing in great form with his trainer Chantal Turpin taking the reins his past three outings, winning two and running a cracking fourth to Hipstar two weeks ago in fast time for the 2138m.
He’ll go back from the draw, bide his time and then unleash the fury late in the piece.
The Waterboy contested a stronger race than this last time out on this track when down the line behind Isntthatright in slick time for the 2138m journey from a poor draw and he will appreciate getting back to the sprint trip and this class of horse.
Knockawarwon looks to have the speed to head off Bottle Rock to his inside and will more than likely be seeking cover, so there is a strong chance The Waterboy runs to the front.
He is a proven 1:55 winner from the front end and if he finds himself setting the pace, they will have a hard time mowing him down.
