Mullum Ruby is a handy filly who has been brave in defeat at her past two outings this track and trip behind quality 3YO’s Sure Thing Captain and Alta Magician.
She finds a much easier assignment today, should race close to the pace from the nice draw and will be mighty hard to beat.
The Beauden Blues ran a super race here last week behind Sure Thing Captain at his Aussie debut from the front end when just nabbed on the stick in 1:53.6.
That was his first run since March, so there will be nice improvement in him and expect him to go very close second up despite the second line draw.
Neptune is a former Kiwi 3YO under the care of Rob Morris who looked good first up when third at Menangle last week in 1:52.6 after leading them up.
He will be better for that run, draws to find the top once more, or at least sit handy to the pace and this looks a nice race for him to bust his Aussie maiden.
Sure Thing Captain is an ultra-smart 3YO gearing up for a shot at the QLD Derby and things look right on track after his cracking victory last week.
He takes on the older horses today, which is never easy, but he draws to advantage to race in or near the lead and he really should be too good for them.
Van Basten beat him one of his main rivals today in Aardies Flash from this very draw two runs ago and his effort last time out when second in 1:52 was full of merit.
He will have to hustle from the inside second line draw to keep the back of Aardies Flash, but that looks highly likely, and expect him to be hard to hold out with the last shot.
