Remus delivers the LRC a maiden Group 1 winner
Star LRC chaser, Zipping Remus, continued to scale new heights on Saturday night when taking out the Group 1 Ladbrokes Vic Peters Final in impressive fashion. He began only moderately from his inside draw, but he quickly mustered strongly and drove the rail entering the first corner. From this point, he carved out a scintillating 17.71 to the top corner, opened up a significant break on his rivals and pulled away for a comprehensive victory by eight widening lengths, in a time of 29.33 seconds.
“He only came out average but (watching) from behind he was showing a lot of speed going into the first corner, bustling with the two, then he put the shoulder into it and away he went. He’s a very good chaser. When he got around the first corner, he was right”, trainer John Finn’s assistant Minnie Finn said.
With this victory, Zipping Remus emulated his champion sire, Feral Franky, who triumphed in the 2019 edition of the Vic Peters. The victory was his eighth career win from only twelve starts, and his upward trajectory is only just beginning. There will be several feature targets on the horizon for Remus throughout the year, but his sights will be firmly set on the Ladbrokes Million Dollar Chase, with the final set to be held on October 13 at Wentworth Park.
Kanazawa pleases in his first-up Sunshine State assignment
Former Godolphin galloper, Kanazawa, made his debut for the Ladbrokes Racing Club at Doomben on Saturday. He was allocated top-weight due to his three metropolitan wins in Sydney, so the stable elected to make use of apprentice Cejay Graham’s three-kilogram claim to provide him some relief. Training partners, Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted, were incredibly pleased with Kanazawa leading into the run and optimism was high for a great preparation.
He began well from the gates and showed great early speed to be in a prominent position after a furlong. With further speed injected from out wide, Cejay elected to take a sit with him and trail the leading pair, who clamped on the pace. This provided him a lovely run throughout, where he was able to relax well and travel in a beautiful rhythm. He presented with significant purpose at the top of the straight and looked a great winning hope midway down the lane, but he peaked on his run late to finish in third position, beaten just over a length.
We were incredibly proud of his effort, considering he was first-up, was giving away weight to his main rivals and will continue to improve throughout the preparation. A lucky team of LRC customers were fortunate enough to be drawn from the ballot for the Kanazawa VIP Owner Experience and they certainly enjoyed the brilliant hospitality on-course from the Brisbane Racing Club! They were also able to get terrific insight from co-trainer Matt Hoysted, pre- and post-race.
Kanazawa’s next target will be at Eagle Farm on July 29, where is set to contest a 1300m set-weights race, which will certainly suit him!
GBR set to tackle Eagle Farm
The Chris Waller-trained, Great Barrier Reef, has been mixing his form in recent Sydney runs so his next assignment will be at Eagle Farm this Saturday. He has been lacking some confidence, so the trip away may spark something with him and he’ll also find races in Brisbane slightly easier, compared to what he has been contesting.
There are two options for him this Saturday; a 1200m contest for three-year-old’s, which is Chris’ more favoured option at this stage, and there is also a 1000m race. The team will assess both races, before making a final decision on which race is most suitable to him. He galloped over 1000m on Tuesday morning and his rider was very pleased with his work, so he is hard to fault leading into Saturday’s run.
Two promising chasers join the LRC
Two promising Victorian greyhounds have joined the Ladbrokes Racing Club!
The Emily Azzopardi-trained, Canya Exceed, is two-year old chaser who is developing a promising record. Canya Exceed has started his career nicely, recording four wins from his first five starts, including an impressive 29.46 at Sandown Park. After a stint in Queensland for the Flying Amy Classic, Exceed has returned to Victoria to improve on his city-class ability, and we are hoping he can be a great money-spinner as he enters his prime.
The Matt Lanigan-trained, Divine Nature, quickly showed his class as a chaser, winning his Maiden in fast time at Warrnambool. He has always shown above-average talent, and after a few some niggles on the injury front, is ready to highlight his talent at Metropolitan grade and contest Group races along the way.
Head to the LRC platform to check out their profiles and to follow along with their journey! They are set to have a busy few weeks coming up.
