We’ll be racing on a rain-affected track when the action returns to Randwick-Kensington this Wednesday, July 1st.
All seven races have drawn quality fields, and it shapes as a great betting program in Sydney once again.
Read on for my Randwick-Kensington best bets.
CONSULATE is second up and primed to strike at Randwick-Kensington.
The Chris Waller-trained filly finished midfield on debut at Ballarat in February and was immediately put away, and after a couple of decent trial performances here in Sydney, she was only denied by an impressive Demerzel at Canterbury when resuming.
With natural improvement this week, this looks a perfect opportunity for her to go one better.
| 3. Consulate (8) J: Chad Schofield 56kg 6×2T: Chris Waller | |||
| Third race start. First start 6th of 11 at Ballarat 2yo Mdn-Sw on February 22 over 1100m, 7 len behind Medicinal carrying 56kg at $20. Went for a spell before returning 2nd of 8 at Canterbury 2yo F Mdn on June 17 over 1250m, slow going 1.75 len behind Demerzel carrying 55kg at $3.90. Progressive filly who looks sure to run well. | |||
CLAUDEL has been knocking on the door since debuting and gets another great chance to win this week.
Having shown improvement through a handful of trials prior to her debut, Claudel mustered a fine performance behind Beneath The Rock at Warwick Farm in early June before producing a similar effort to finish second again at Canterbury.
Fitter third-up, she just requires appropriate luck in the run to figure in the finish again.
| 6. Claudel (12) J: Chad Schofield 55kg 22T: Chris Waller | |||
| Raced twice to date. When well in the market at debut, sat on speed throughout when 2nd of 7 at Warwick Farm 3yo F Mdn-Sw on June 3 over 1300m, slow going 2 len behind Beneath The Rock carrying 56kg at $3.30. Last start ran on from midfield; 2nd of 10 at Canterbury Super 3yo Mdn-Sw on June 17 over 1250m, slow going 3 len behind Gatwick with 55kg at $2.10. Can win with an ounce of luck from the wide gate. | |||
BALLPARK takes winning form into another nice race at Randwick-Kensington on Wednesday.
His first two runs back this time perhaps left a little to the imagination, but Ballpark returned to form with a dominant performance to get up over this trip at Canterbury last time out.
Tim Clark rides from a perfect barrier this week and I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish again.
| 3. Ballpark (4) J: Tim Clark 60.5kg 5×571T: Chris Waller | |||
| At the latest run won by 0.6 len at Canterbury 3&4yo Bm64 June 8 over 1550m on a rain affected track defeating Lipstick with 58.5kg at $11. Before that 7th of 10 at Kembla Grange Bm64 on May 9 over 1600m, 5.5 len behind Mcadam carrying 59kg at $9.50. Still on the upward spiral and is expected to take some running down. | |||
Chris Waller holds another strong hand in this contest including EMBALLEE, who I’ve put on top.
Emballee needed her first run back this time when comfortably accounted for in BM72 company at Warwick Farm, but she took plenty of improvement into a fine performance behind the likes of Mo Chroi a fortnight ago.
With further improvement this week and a light weight in tow, she looms as a genuine each way contender.
| 9. Emballee (7) J: Tyler Schiller 55.5kg 21×85T: Chris Waller | |||
| Third-up today and won third-up previously. First-up 8th of 11 at Warwick Farm 4yo+ Bm72 on June 3 over 1300m, on a slow track; 4 len behind Aye Aye Captain with 56kg at $14. Second-up 5th of 9 at Canterbury Bm72 on June 17 over 1550m, on a slow track; 2.25 len behind Mo Chroi carrying 56kg at $12. Should be ready to put it all together now. | |||
CONCHIERO is second up into a winnable race at Randwick-Kensington.
The Pierata gelding has been a good horse for the Waterhouse & Bott yard since debuting, and he returned to action with a decent effort to place in BM72 company at Canterbury, beaten just over half a length.
This is one of, if not the best race on the program, but Conchiero strips fitter and does look perfectly placed this week.
| 2. Conchiero (11) J: Zac Wadick 62kg 718×3T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott | |||
| Second run back. First-up after three months crossed from a wide gate to settle just off the pace but gave ground when 3rd of 11 at Canterbury 4yo+ Bm72 on June 17 over 1200m, on a slow track; 0.8 len behind Island Dec with 59.5kg at $12. Previously second-up 7th of 9 at Cranbourne Bm74 on February 13 over 1400m, 2.25 len behind Hot Digity Boom carrying 57.5kg at $4. Has won second-up in the past and is capable of building on that record. | |||
First emergency PAZYRYK has gained a start and rates as a key winning chance again.
The Lonhro filly was fair without threatening during her first couple of preps but returned to action a clearly improved horse this time when hitting the line to break her maiden over 1100m at Gosford.
This is harder, but she’s open to plenty of improvement for that hit-out and she has options in the run this week from the rails draw.
| 11. Pazyryk (1) J: Ashley Morgan 58.5kg 445×1T: Michael Freedman | |||
| Second run back. First-up after four months won by 0.6 len at Gosford 2&3yo Mdn June 11 over 1100m on a soft track defeating Magic Blaze with 56kg at $3.10. Previously second-up 4th of 8 at Newcastle Mdn on January 24 over 1300m, 3 len behind Sun Warrior carrying 55.5kg at $7.50. Tougher here and the ratings indicate she will struggle to feature in the finish. | |||
I’m keen to be with DEAR JEWEL in the last at Randwick-Kensington this week.
Dear Jewel has been up and racing for some time, but she has continued to turn in strong performances in recent months, winning in BM72 company at Warwick Farm most notably.
This is probably the weakest task she’s been set for a short while and in peak order, it’s a great opportunity for her to win.
| 9. Dear Jewel (8) J: Tim Clark 55kg 31355T: Joseph Pride | |||
| Most recently 5th of 13 at Warwick Farm Bm72 on June 24 over 1100m, 2 len behind Zale carrying 55.5kg at $8.50. Before that 5th of 13 at Randwick Bm78 on June 6 over 1000m, slow going 4 len behind Ice Kool with 52kg at $20. Should be about the mark again. | |||
