Mildura Harness Preview – Friday 14th August

Mildura Harness Preview – Friday 14th August

Mildura hosts Friday afternoon harness racing with seven races on offer. Craig Rail provides a race-by-race preview and tips.

Race 1
SELECTIONS: WATCH THE ATTITUDE (2), GUEST ARTIST (1), KING SAINT (5), THEBUCKSONYOU (4)

OVERVIEW: WATCH THE ATTITUDE (2) is rising in class but produced a stunning performance when she scored last week, where she led, raced fiercely and dashed well clear over the concluding stages. The mile rate she recorded (1.56.5) was very similar to what the open class pacers have been running at Mildura so she is a good chance of winning again. GUEST ARTIST (1) has been disappointing since coming from New South Wales but he sustained a flat tyre and was retired out of the race last week so he had excuses. He is a good chance of trailing the leader from the pole position so he is worth another chance. KING SAINT (5) drew poorly against the Metropolitan class last week and was always in a rearward position. His form prior was sound and a bold showing is expected against this line up. THEBUCKSONYOU (4) is a versatile pacer and had little luck after being held up for a run at a vital stage on Friday. He won nicely at Swan Hill prior and is worth an investment.

01821T: Allan MacDonald
Last start won by 25 m as favourite after showing early speed, (Fr4) at this track (2:09.50) beating Shes Poppy in on August 7 at $2.10 at the bell was leading 8.8. Should go on with it.

Race 2
SELECTIONS: LETSGO BIG GIRL (2), POWERSOFPERSUASION (6), UNITED (3), CEMETERY BAY (5)

OVERVIEW: LETSGO BIG GIRL (2) is a genuine front running pacer, which led throughout and defeated Tough Ain’t Enough (won since) in a mile rate of 1.56.4 on July 10. She led and was run down by Royal Appointment last time out and should give another forward showing here, despite her best form being over the sprint distance. POWERSOFPERSUASION (6) trailed the leader and was inconvenienced before the home turn when fourth behind Don Lou last week. He worked hard early before gaining a trail when third behind Royal Appointment prior and he must be given a winning chance. UNITED (3) has returned to his peak form over the past few weeks and led throughout to score over Lewielewis at Mildura seven days ago. This is a race of greater depth but he is worth thought again. CEMETERY BAY (5) can sprint to the line quickly with the right trail forward and will be suited to competing in a small field of six runners.

Two back was well beaten into eighth behind Serg Blanco at this track over 2190m on July 17 at $26. Then a handy effort when beaten by 1.75 m finishing second after a quick start, behind Royal Appointment at this track over 1790m on July 31 at $3.60. Has a nice draw and expected to figure prominently again.

Race 3
SELECTIONS: ALLTHEWAYTOROYALTY (1), KEAYANG CRIPPA (5), BEAUDIENESGOLD (2), EGBERT (4)

OVERVIEW: ALLTHEWAYTOROYALTY (1) was making his debut for trainer John Tormey when he progressed forward to find the lead at the 1100m and battled on well for second behind Livermere at Ballarat. He is perfectly drawn and should run a good race again. KEAYANG CRIPPA (5) commenced from the inside of the second line, settled three back on the markers and was held up for a run at a vital stage before finishing fast when an unlucky third behind Hesastar last week. He parked on the outside of the leader throughout when third prior and is ready to break through for a win against this class. BEAUDIENESGOLD (2) was having her second run since March when she attempted to lead throughout and finished second behind Hesastar last week. She is a winning chance if she can find the lead again from her good draw. EGBERT (4) pushed forward to race without cover, gained a one out and one back trail at the 1100m and finished a close up fourth last week. He is a fast beginner and is not without a chance under these conditions.

Having his second run back from a spell. Good run when 2nd (Fr5) over 1710m after showing early speed and racing wide at Ballarat was leading by 2.71 at the bell, beaten 4 m by Livermere (2:06.00) on August 5 at $4.80. Will improve with that run under the belt. Bold showing expected again.

Race 4
Each Way
SELECTIONS: CHALKNCHEDDAR (2), THE LADYBIRD (3), DAYLIGHT (8), HESASTAR (5) ᅠ

OVERVIEW: CHALKNCHEDDAR (2) settled midfield and produced a big finish to defeat HESASTAR (5) (won since) by a comfortable margin at Mildura last outing. He is a versatile pacer and this race is no harder so he should prove hard to beat again. THE LADYBIRD (3) dropped out to last early, gave the leaders a big start and did well to finish as close as she did last week. She lacks early dash but is worth thought on her latest performance. DAYLIGHT (8) settled three back on the markers and finished off too well when a runaway winner at Mildura on July 17 then followed with a handy finishing second behind Sneaky Philtra. She missed out in a leader dominated race last week and is worth another chance. HESASTAR (5) progressed forward to race without cover and proved to be too strong at Mildura last week. This race is a little harder but he is likely to be driven in a similar manner and is worth thought again.

Last start came from midfield and posted a big 7 m win (Fr5) at this track (2:14.80) beating Hesastar in on July 31 at $8.50 at the bell was 6th-7.4. In form now and can go on with it.

Race 5
SELECTIONS: WHITEHAVEN BEACH (5), THE DEVIL ROLLS ON (3), SNEAKY PHILTRA (7), RONZEL RAFA (6)

OVERVIEW: WHITEHAVEN BEACH (5) was stranded out wide on the track and pushed forward to race without cover when a brave third behind Starvin Marvin at Mildura last week. He is racing in good form and this appears to be a very suitable assignment. THE DEVIL ROLLS ON (3) is rising in class on her all of the way victory at Mildura last week but she is a good chance of finding the lead again so she might be able to take the next step forward. SNEAKY PHILTRA (7) had excuses last week after she broke stride in the score up and chased hard in the early stages. Her form prior was sound having had three wins and a second from her previous four attempts so she is worth another chance. RONZEL RAFA (6) was without cover early then gained a one out and one back trail at the 1100m when fourth behind Don Crunch on Friday afternoon. He missed out narrowly behind Rubbleonthedouble prior and is a place chance again.

Improved last start with a game effort despite getting well back, when 3rd (Fr5) over 2190m at this track was 2nd-2.6 at the bell, beaten 1.5 m by Starvin Marvin (2:44.30) on August 7 at $12. Gets his chance to break through.

Race 6
SELECTIONS: SEASIDE LADY (6), SANTA CASA LEVI (8), CRUEL MISTRESS (1), CAPTIVATE ME (3)

OVERVIEW: SEASIDE LADY (6) is the only horse prepared by astute South Australian mentor Ryan Hryhorec on the Mildura program and she ran a cracking second after being driven aggressively from the inside of the second row at Ballarat last outing so she is likely to carry strong support in this event. SANTA CASA LEVI (8) broke stride 100m after the start and lost her chance at Mildura last week. She was runner up at her three attempts prior against similar opposition so she should be competitive with a safe getaway. CRUEL MISTRESS (1) began well from the outside of the front line and was able to angle across to trail the leader when third behind All Done Tara last week. She is perfectly drawn to gain a similar trip and is worth a place ticket. CAPTIVATE ME (3) and MY ULTIMATE HENRY (4) both performed well below expectations last outing but are capable of better in a race of limited winning chances.

Race 7
SELECTIONS: CARLISLE CRUISER (9), BAZZAS LEGACY (2), SHES POPPY (6), CAULONIA TERROR (3)

OVERVIEW: CARLISLE CRUISER (9) will be getting fitter after having two starts back from a break and he will appreciate a significant drop back in class for this assignment. He did have every chance last week but the time was fast and he appears to be better placed here. BAZZAS LEGACY (2) settled midfield and worked home well for third behind the two handy pacers Don Crunch and Just Incredible last week. He is a lightly raced 3yo pacer and should continue to improve with the benefit of racing. SHES POPPY (6) began quickly and ended up being behind the leader when second in a slick mile rate of 1.56.5 last week. She is poorly drawn but is racing in good form and is worth a ticket each way. CAULONIA TERROR (3) finished third in the same race as SHES POPPY (6) last week and his form prior was against stronger opposition so he is not without a chance.

Last start surrendered the lead and finished 4th (Fr1) over 2190m after showing early pace at this track was 3rd-4.4 at the bell, beaten 10 m by United (2:43.20) on August 7 at $16. Before that, was driven from back in the field when 6th (Fr4) over 2190m at this track beaten 35 m by Bandit Eyes (2:40.70) on July 31 at $23. Capable of a lot more.
