Craig Rail previews Friday night’s eight-race Melton card, including his key chances, tips, staking plan and quaddie plays.
OVERVIEW: SECRET SERVICE AGENT (4) will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment and will take beating. He had little luck from a wide draw when unplaced in the Super Series Final then raced on the outside of the leader throughout over the testing distance of 2760m in a heat of the Victoria Derby last outing. POPCORNFRIDAY (1) was held up for a run at a vital stage, angled wide at the 150m and finished strongly for seventh (2.5m) at Melton last outing. He is a short course specialist and should be reaching his peak after having two starts back from a break so he rates as a value hope. BRINGSUSJOY (3) was held up behind the tiring leader and didn’t have the best of luck when seventh at Metropolitan level last outing. She finished fast to win over Just As Well prior so she warrants respect. DONMARO (10) hasn’t produced his best form since coming from New Zealand but he should be fitter after his first up run and his form across the Tasman was good enough to be competitive here.
BACK: SECRET SERVICE AGENT (4) – 2 units (win)
SELECTIONS: SECRET SERVICE AGENT (4), POPCORNFRIDAY (1), BRINGSUSJOY (3), DONMARO (10)

| Capable of better than we have seen lately. Last start 7th (Fr2) over 2760m at this track, at the bell was 2nd-3.56 beaten 18 m by Palladium (3:21.30) in 3yo on October 10 at $126. The run previous was well back in the run when 9th (Fr6) over 2240m at this track was 8th-13.55 at the bell, beaten 18 m by Enjoy Life (2:38.70) in 3yo G1 on September 12 at $151. Will enjoy a class drop. | |||
OVERVIEW: TED BEAR (10) finished off strongly from the second half of the field when second behind Our Pinup Girl at Ballarat and followed with a seventh from a similar bad draw at Maryborough. He is likely to settle a long way back again from his similar draw here but he does strike a suitable line up. SPUN SILVER (6) continues to race in good form and should give a forward showing. She led throughout at a Kilmore victory three starts ago and attempted to lead throughout when third in a handy mile of 1.55.0 at Geelong. FLIGHT LOUTENANT (9) struck trouble at his debut for trainer Jess Tubbs after a third at Wagga. He has the perfect trailing draw and is worth another chance. HURRICANE HOOLY (3) is racing consistently and is perfectly drawn to suit her racing pattern. She was forced out very wide from the 400m and had excuses at her latest fourth.
SELECTIONS: TED BEAR (10), SPUN SILVER (6), FLIGHT LOUTENANT (9), HURRICANE HOOLY (3)

| Last start was well beaten into seventh behind Regal Rock at Maryborough over 1690m on October 12 at $23. Performed better the start before with a game effort when 2nd (Fr2) over 1710m at Ballarat was 6th-10.85 at the bell, beaten 2 m by Our Pinup Girl (2:03.00) on October 1 at $5. Can make an impact with even luck from the back row. | |||
OVERVIEW: BANIA (11) was heavily supported on debut but lost his chance after breaking stride at the start. He made up many lengths and did a good job to finish as close as he did so he is worth another chance. BAD GRANDMA (8) is awkwardly drawn but was impressive at a recent Melton trial victory in a mile rate of 1.58.0 so she must be respected. THE PRIVATE DEAL (5) is a former New South Wales pacer, which joins trainer Julie Douglas. She finished off quickly to win a Shepparton trial last week and she can improve on her numerical form. MILEY KAY (2) attempted to lead throughout and was run down on the line when a close second behind Cazadero at Swan Hill. This race is no harder and she is worth thought again. SEW HOPEFULL (3) led out then took cover and battled on fairly well for second behind Keayang Maricruz at Kilmore last outing. She is a maiden from 20 starts but she is a definite place chance again.
SELECTIONS: BANIA (11), BAD GRANDMA (8), THE PRIVATE DEAL (5), MILEY KAY (2)

| Two-year-old gelding facing the starter for the second time. At debut broke in score up and was out of position at the start 6th (Fr2) over 2100m at Geelong was 6th-8.73 at the bell, beaten 6 m by Katunti (2:38.80) on October 16 at $1.65. Still learning but looks to have ability. | |||
BACK: KOSIMO (8) – 2 units (win)
SELECTIONS: KOSIMO (8), MISTER AMERICANO (5), LE GASTON (4), LENARD ESS (6)
| 8. Kosimo (1) 60386 | |||
| Last start was well back in the run when 6th (Fr4) over 1690m at Kilmore was 4th-5.82 at the bell, beaten 16 m by Dembe (2:02.00) on October 14 at $14. At the run before 8th (Fr1) over 2240m at this track, beaten 30 m by Earl Of Pembroke (2:44.30) on October 9 at $6. Better placed. | |||
BACK: TWIGSTAR (4) – 3 units (win)
SELECTIONS: TWIGSTAR (4), ARZALI ROCKSTAR (3), BRAVE ART (2), OZZIE DIAMOND (1)
| 4. Twigstar (4) 11 | |||
| Looks well placed in this tougher race, but she was impressive winning last start [-+] posted a big 19 m win (Fr3) at Cranbourne (2:31.30) beating Letitrideluv in 3yo on October 4 at $2.10 at the bell was leading 3.4. Can maintain her perfect record. | |||
OVERVIEW: TASTE IT (3) led throughout at a Shepparton victory on September 01 and finished second from behind the leader at Shepparton last week. She is drawn to obtain a prominent position again and should go well. ALPHA CRUCIS (7) is poorly drawn but will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment. He was held up for a run at a vital stage and used the sprint lane when an unlucky fifth (2m) at Melton two starts ago. LOAN SAILOR (8) was resuming since a win at Stawell when she galloped away and lost her chance at Geelong. She is not without a chance if she delivers a fool proof display. CHALKNCHEDDAR (4) ran a reasonable race from three back on the markers at Swan Hill last week and is worth a ticket each way in an open race.
SELECTIONS: TASTE IT (3), ALPHA CRUCIS (7), LOAN SAILOR (8), CHALKNCHEDDAR (4)
| 3. Taste It (3) x1672 | |||
| Two back was beaten by 8 m finishing seventh after a quick start, behind Shezabluechip at Charlton over 1609m on September 21 at $7. Then a handy effort when beaten by 4.5 m finishing second after a quick start, behind Miss Piggy Wiggy at Shepparton over 1690m on October 13 at $15. Draws for a strong showing. | |||
BACK: MY ULTIMATE BARNEY (6) – 3 units (win)
SELECTIONS: MY ULTIMATE BARNEY (6), JUSTALITTLESIP (5), IMA TERMINATOR (2), PAS GUARANTEE (4)
| 6. My Ultimate Barney (6) 30684 | |||
| Last start 4th (Sr1) over 2645m after racing wide at Globe Derby Park, at the bell was 2nd-4.2 beaten 4.5 m by Ultimate Vinnie (3:11.50) on October 17 at $2.60. Before that, 8th (Sr1) over 1720m at this track, at the bell was 6th-11.48 beaten 15 m by Bulletproof Boy (1:58.30) in LR on October 10 at $61. Well placed and hard to stop. | |||
OVERVIEW: BEAUTIFUL SUNRISE (5) was resuming since March when she took advantage of a soft trip and finished off best to win at Geelong. She was in good form at the end of her last campaign and commenced her current preparation nicely so she should prove hard to beat again. CHINSKI (1) was attempting to hold the inside advantage but was checked and galloped on the first turn when an unlucky fifth at Geelong. He races best when he is able to lead so he has the conditions to suit him here. MASSIF CENTRAL (2) is also a fast beginner, which should be prominent throughout. He won from behind the leader at Kilmore three starts ago. GATESYS MATE (7) performed below expectations when he was resuming from a spell but this is a drop back in class and his form last preparation was good enough to be competitive under these conditions.
SELECTIONS: BEAUTIFUL SUNRISE (5), CHINSKI (1), MASSIF CENTRAL (2), GATESYS MATE (7)
| 5. Beautiful Sunrise (5) 218×1 | |||
| Last start won by 1.2 m (Fr5) at Geelong (2:00.20) beating Sonnyboy in on October 16 at $9.50 at the bell was 4th-6.7. Should be further improved and is a winning chance again. | |||
