Caulfield hosts a competitive nine-race program on Saturday with the rail in the true position and showers expected throughout the meeting. The Soft7 surface should give every runner their chance, although horses capable of handling rain-affected ground and settling close to the speed may hold a slight advantage as the day progresses. Several lightly raced types look ready to step through the grades, while the feature sprint races are packed with depth and betting opportunities.

Caulfield Race-by-Race Tips
Caulfield Race 1 – Sportsbet Feed Hcp – 1200m
Our pick: #3 – Carnevale – @$3.60
There was plenty to like about his lone run back in the spring when finishing fourth in the G3 Maribyrnong Plate at Flemington after attracting strong market support. He resumes here off two encouraging trial performances, including a recent win at Werribee, and the inside draw should allow Declan Bates to settle him in a perfect stalking position. The Hayes camp rarely rushes these types, and with the winkers going on first-up, he looks ready to return in winning fashion.

Caulfield Race 2 – Ian Miller (BM78) – 1200m
Our pick: #3 – Swift Force – @$1.55
Speed can be such a weapon around Caulfield, and this filly showed exactly that first-up when exploding clear over 1100m here to score by more than two lengths. She’s now won four of five overall, handles soft ground well, and maps to control the race again from the front. The rise to 1200m holds no fears given her record at the trip, and with the claim helping offset the weight, she looks very hard to run down once more.

Caulfield Race 3 – Selangor Turf Club Hcp – 1400m
Our pick: #2 – Bel Mezyaan – @$4.60
He continues to race like a horse with plenty more upside, and the Bendigo Guineas run last start reads strongly for this level after closing hard behind a smart winner. The step to 1400m suits perfectly, the soft conditions hold no concerns, and Declan Bates should be able to slot into a lovely midfield trail from the draw. With only five starts under the belt and a consistent profile already, he looks ready to take another step forward.

Caulfield Race 4 – Rod Fenwick (BM78) – 1600m
Our pick: #2 – Madiyya – @$3.30
She looks perfectly placed third-up here after two very encouraging Flemington runs this campaign. The latest effort was excellent, charging home late behind Naina and only beaten a head in a stronger race than this. She’s unbeaten at Caulfield, rises to the mile which suits nicely, and the backmarker pattern should work if the tempo is genuine. Luke Currie knows her well and she gets every chance to finish over the top of them late.

Caulfield Race 5 – Rod Griffiths (BM100) – 1600m
Our pick: #8 – See That Storm – @$3.20
He resumes off a long spell but the overseas form is more than good enough for this level, and the recent Caulfield Heath trial win suggested he’s come back in terrific order. The Price and Kent stable have given him plenty of time, Craig Williams takes the ride, and the light weight is a major advantage in a race packed with seasoned handicappers. If he reproduces anything close to his UK staying form, he’ll take beating fresh.

Caulfield Race 6 – JRA (BM84) – 2000m
Our pick: #11 – Simurgh – @$1.85
The lightly raced import looks to have plenty more upside and was dominant over this track and trip last start when putting away a handy BM78 field by a length and a half. He handled the Soft 7 without issue, drops in nicely at the weights again, and Craig Williams sticks with him for the Hayes stable. With only five career starts under the belt and a perfect two-from-two record at 2000m, he shapes as the one they all have to beat.

Caulfield Race 7 – Coolmore & Ireland Funds Australia Hcp – 1100m
Our pick: #4 – Tres Magnifique – @$6.00
She’s flying this preparation and looks ready to measure up again despite the rise in grade. The filly has put together three straight wins in dominant fashion, including a strong performance on soft ground two starts back, and Craig Williams stays aboard from a perfect three-from-three partnership. From the inside draw she should enjoy the run of the race and her tactical speed makes her extremely hard to hold out late.

4. Tres Magnifique (2)
J: Craig Williams 59.5kg
0x111T: Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young

Caulfield Race 8 – Sportsbet Bel Esprit Stakes (L) – 1100m
Our pick: #12 – Bustling – @$3.00
He looks extremely well placed here second-up after an encouraging return behind Bazaball Rewarded over 1000m at this track. That was his first run in more than 600 days and he still hit the line strongly despite carrying 62kg. His juvenile form in Western Australia was outstanding, including dominant Group wins, and Craig Williams taking over is a major positive. With natural improvement and just 54kg, he appeals as the class runner of the field.

12. Bustling (7)
J: Craig Williams 54kg
1x8x3T: Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr
|
Caulfield Race 9 – Darren Gauci (BM84) – 1200m
Our pick: #3 – Stoli Bolli – @$4.60
He looks ready to bounce straight back after tackling much stronger Listed company at Flemington last start. Prior to that he was dominant winning a BM84 at Bendigo by 2.5 lengths, and his overall profile this prep has been extremely consistent. The drop back into benchmark grade suits, he handles soft ground, and the Hayes stable continues to fly. From barrier three with the claim, he should get every chance to settle closer and prove hard to hold out late.
