JOLIESTAR (7) is the clear favourite for Saturday’s Sheraco Stakes and for good reason. The talented daughter of Zoustar finished third in this race last year behind Sunshine In Paris, and she’s since elevated her game to elite status.
Now a triple Group 1 winner, Joliestar added the Newmarket Handicap and Kingsford-Smith Cup to her resume this year, building on her Thousand Guineas triumph as a three-year-old in 2023. Her gritty win at Eagle Farm on June 7 showcased her determination, and she returns fresh with a strong record over 1200m — four wins from eight starts (8:4-0-2).
Trainer Chris Waller has already claimed four Sheraco Stakes victories, most recently with Haut Brion Her in 2020, and there’s solid market support for his $4.5 million mare to deliver a fifth. Back against her own sex and well-weighted, Joliestar looks perfectly placed to dominate.
She’s the standout. Hard to tip against.

Part of The Run To The Rose Stakes Day, which is headlined by the Group 2 Run To The Rose for Golden Rose hopefuls, the Sheraco is a 1200m sprint open to fillies and mares.
First run in 1998 the event is contested at set weights plus penalties and serves as a good lead-up into the Group 2 Golden Pendant. Mizzy (2019) was the last mare to complete the Sheraco Stakes – Golden Pendant race double.
In 2023 the Sheraco Stakes runner-up Espiona went on to win the Golden Pendant next start.
The best mares out of the Sheraco Stakes are also now potential runners in the $2 million The Invitation race, an event the 2021 Sheraco winner Entriviere finished fourth in after a Golden Pendant third, while Espiona ran second in the Sheraco before winning that year’s The Invitation.
The world’s richest turf race – the now $20 million The Everest (1200m) – is also a potential spring option for Sheraco Stakes graduates with the 2022 winner Shades Of Rose finishing eighth in that year’s edition behind Giga Kick.
