  • 2nd: No. 2 Farnicle
  • 3rd: No. 1 Estremo

Ohope ($5.50) delivered a strong win in the 2025 Tapp-Craig results at Rosehill, surging home under Tommy Berry to claim the Listed feature for three-year-olds.

Trained by Michael Freedman, the up-and-comer made the most of barrier six and a Good-rated track to notch his biggest career victory to date in the $500,000 event.

Berry gave the Godolphin colt a patient ride, settling just off the speed before producing him at the right time to reel in Farnicle and Estremo in the final stages.

The win was a breakthrough for the son of I Am Invincible, who had been building nicely this prep and was well-supported in early markets.

His closing sectionals were sharp, and the win puts him firmly in the frame for upcoming spring targets, potentially including the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes or even a tilt at the Coolmore Stud Stakes if connections opt to freshen him.

Tapp-Craig Tips

Top Tapp-Craig betting tips include looking for the in-form three-year-olds with winning form over at least 1200m, any graduates out of earlier Group status events in Sydney during the spring and those dominant gallopers in the frame for the $1 million Callander-Presnell later in the spring.

Looking for the in-form fillies in the mix is another key Tapp-Craig tip with the opening two editions won by fillies with Opal Ridge (2022) and Makarena (2023) before the 2024 win by the colt Anode.

2025 Tapp-Craig Tips

Our Ladbrokes’ insider Tapp-Craig 2025 race tips will be provided below the week of the race so stay tuned for the top three-year-olds to back this season.

Each Way: No. 4 Single Choice

SINGLE CHOICE (5) shapes as a genuine value play in the Tapp-Craig, with the 15/1 quote at time of publish looking very appealing for an Each Way ticket. Matt Cumani’s Anders gelding arrives with confidence after back-to-back wins, including a dominant 4.25-length maiden breakthrough at Ballarat and a tough BM64 victory at Bendigo carrying 59kg. That last run was especially impressive given how far back he settled and the ground he made up under a big weight. He faces stronger opposition here, but drops to a handy 55kg, draws well for a soft run, and gets Tyler Schiller aboard. Expect him to track the speed and potentially run a bold race at big odds.

The Tapp-Craig ran for the first time in early October 2022 as a lead-in race to some of the more lucrative Sydney Spring Racing Carnival features over the month for three-year-olds.

The opening edition ran at Randwick Racecourse.

For the second running in 2023 the $500,000 event took place at Rosehill Gardens in early October on Hill Stakes Day.

Racing at the meeting is headlined by the now $2 million Group 2 Hill Stakes (1900m) and also features the lucrative $1.5 million Alan Brown Stakes (1400m) along with the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) and the Group 3 The Nivison (1200m).

The Tapp-Craig is a set weights plus penalties event open only to three-year-olds.

It is the key lead-up into the now Group 2 $1 million Callander-Presnell (1600m) held at the end of October over a mile, which as of 2022 replaced the Stan Fox Stakes and Bondi Stakes (defunct).

The first, second and third placegetters out of the Tapp-Craig results are exempt from The Callander-Presnell ballot.

The event holds Listed states.

In 2024 the Tapp-Craig winner Anode went on to run third in that year’s Callander-Presnell trifecta while Just Party ran second in both events.

Tapp-Craig Betting

Betting on the Tapp-Craig is lead by the season’s top performing, middle-distance three-year-olds eyeing a run in the Callander-Presnell race.

Any Group winners or Group 1 performed youngsters are kept safe in Tapp-Craig betting, and shorter Tapp-Craig odds are offered for proven Sydney runners.

Opal Ridge ($2.40 in 2022) saluted for the punters in the first edition of the race.

Anode ($2.80 in 2024) was the last favourite in Tapp-Craig betting to salute for the punters.

Tapp-Craig Field

The Tapp-Craig race field attracts a capacity or close to capacity line-up of three-year-old horses on the Callander-Presnell path.

Three-year-olds coming off earlier Group status spring races in Sydney, including the Group 1 $1 million Golden Rose Stakes (1400m), are likely to line-up in the Tapp-Craig field in October.

Anode (8th in 2024) was the last Golden Rose graduate to back-up and win the Tapp-Craig.

The Tapp-Craig field attracts a similar class and many of the same horses that continue on to run in Sydney’s Silver Eagle the following season as four-year-olds.

2025 Tapp-Craig Field

The official Tapp-Craig 2025 Final Field & Barriers will be announced on the Wednesday leading-up to the race and listed below as soon as released by Racing NSW.

The 2025 Tapp-Craig field features a quality line-up of three-year-olds including Chris Waller’s last start Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude winner Estremo and the in-form Matt Cumani trained Anders gelding Single Choice chasing a hat-trick.
