7 Stakes Tips
Key 7 Stakes race betting tips include looking for the multiple Group 1 winners in the race, proven milers, those with an earlier Sydney lead-up in a race like the Winx Stakes, and runners from the country’s leading stables.
2025 7 Stakes Tips
Our Ladbrokes’ insider 7 Stakes 2025 betting tips will be detailed below the week of the race so stay tuned to see what runners to back and sack in the Randwick race this season.
To Win: No. 11 Fangirl ($2.70 at time of publish)
FANGIRL (5) returns to defend her crown in the 7 Stakes and rightfully takes her place as the favourite. The now seven-year-old daughter of Sebring, trained by Chris Waller, has been a model of consistency throughout her career, banking an extraordinary $10 million across 34 starts.
She’s a Randwick specialist, with eight of her 11 wins coming at this track, and her record over the mile here is impressive: 12 starts for 3 wins, 3 seconds, and a third. After placing in the inaugural running of this race in 2023, she came back last year to claim victory, and all signs point to her being primed for a repeat performance.
Fangirl simply doesn’t run a bad race. Her autumn campaign was a showcase of class, capped off with a well-earned Group 1 Queen of the Turf win. First-up this prep, she headed south and finished a solid fourth behind rising star Treasurethe Moment in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield. That form has since been franked, with runner-up Mr B storming home to win the Makybe Diva Stakes for a historic third time.
Back in Sydney and stepping up to her preferred distance, Fangirl looks set to thrive. With strong form lines and a proven record, she’s the one to beat—and I won’t be betting against her second-up.

The 7 Stakes race is a recent edition to the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival held at Royal Randwick for the first time in 2023.
The event runs on The Shorts Day in mid-September, which was formerly known as George Main Stakes Day. Ahead of the 2023 edition however the Group 1 George Main Stakes was renamed the $5 million King Charles III Stakes (1600m) and moved to The Everest Day in mid-October.
In place of the missing Group 1 the card now features the $1 million 7 Stakes, which is currently an unlisted Sydney ‘pop-up’ race held over the 1600m.
A quality Group 1-type field of spring stars faces off in the standard weight-for-age clash in Sydney, which runs on the same date as the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) for the Melbourne milers at Flemington.
The 7 Stakes winner gains a ballot exemption for the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) back at Randwick two weeks later.
The 7 Stakes – Epsom Handicap betting double is set to be a popular bet type in the spring.
In 2025, Fangirl successfully defended her title to become the first official dual 7 Stakes winner.
