Golden Gift runners often return the following autumn to contest the next year’s Golden Slipper Stakes
The Golden Gift is a recent edition to the lucrative Sydney Spring Racing Carnival. It was first contested in 2015 and is now worth $1 million in prize money.
Racing NSW continue to boost the number of Special Condition and Restricted races like their hugely successful $20 The Everest event over the spring to compete for attention with the traditional centre for spring racing – Melbourne.

One of the races to gain a huge increase in stakes, the Golden Gift is an 1100m sprint race for two-year-olds held on a Saturday in early to mid-November at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse.
It currently shares the same race date as Victoria’s Champions Stakes Day card at Flemington on the final day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival meeting.
The Golden Gift currently runs on The Five Diamonds Day headlined by the $2 million The Five Diamonds (1800m) for five-year-old horses.
Creating a focal race for juveniles over the spring in Sydney, the Golden Gift attracts youngsters likely to target the following autumn’s Group 1 $5 million Golden Slipper (1200m) back at Rosehill.
The inaugural Golden Gift was won by standout filly Yankee Rose (2015) who went on to run second in the following year’s Golden Slipper before a win in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m). She would go on to win over $2 million in prize money including from her Cox Plate third to super mare Winx in 2016.
In 2019 Dame Giselle won the Golden Gift and franked that form winning a subsequent four Group 2 races over the next 12 months.
The latest edition of the Golden Gift ran on Saturday November 11, 2023 in Sydney on the Saturday after the Melbourne Cup and saw Shangri La Express ($2.10F) become the first favourite to win the race.

Golden Gift Betting
Golden Gift betting is traditionally a tough event for the punters with the two-year-olds coming into the race with very little lead-up form.
Any juveniles coming off eye-catching trials and Sydney-trained youngsters with a previous race start / win lead Golden Gift betting in the spring.
Over the race’s short history the fillies have dominated so the two-year-old girls in the mix often sit at shorter Golden Gift odds than the colts and geldings. Dame Giselle (2019) followed by Sneaky Five (2020) are the latest fillies to beat home the boys.
The Group 3 Breeders Plate (1000m) held at Randwick in early October can serve as a guide to the Golden Gift with Sejardan completing the double in 2021.
The 2023 Golden Gift winner Shangri La Express ($2.10) became the first favourite in the race’s history to win on the back of a successful debut in the Kirkham Plate (1000m).
Golden Gift Field
The Golden Gift race field attracts a line-up of progressive and untapped two-year-old horses, many of which have little or no previous race experience.
The recent prize money increase to $1 million ensures the better class of juveniles contest the Golden Gift race field, with many out of the race likely to target the following autumn’s Golden Slipper Stakes or for eligible youngsters the $2 million Inglis Millennium (1100m).
Trainers may use the Golden Gift field as a career kick-off for their stable young guns and many will be put away after the race to mature ahead of a new year return with a focus on the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival riches.
2023 Golden Gift Field
The official Golden Gift 2023 final field and barriers will be announced by Racing NSW leading-up to the meeting and published in full below.
The 2023 Golden Gift final field features a bumper line-up of promising two-year-olds including the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained colt Shangri La Express who is the only non-maiden in the mix after a big 2.5 length win on debut at Randwick last month in the Kirkham Plate over 1000m.

Golden Gift Form Guide
The Golden Gift form guide shows the full field, barriers, jockeys, trainers and any lead-up runs of the two-year-olds confirmed to run in the now $1 million sprint.
Looking at the Golden Gift form for juveniles with a previous race start or successful pre-race trial can prove a nice guide to betting on the 1100m clash, while an inside barrier draw is also often a key in the two-year-old races.
Punters can also use the form out of the Golden Gift in the following year’s two-year-old events like the Golden Slipper Stakes.

A link to our comprehensive Golden Gift 2023 form guide and betting preview will be provided below the week of the race.
Golden Gift Tips
Golden Gift tipping focuses on finding any two-year-olds in the field that have previous race experience, especially youngsters that are Sydney-trained and have already broken their maiden status with a lead-up win from earlier in the spring.
Golden Gift tips usually favour two-year-old fillies who have a good record over the boys and those with winning trial form before the Rosehill Gardens feature.
2023 Golden Gift Tips
Our Ladbrokes’ exclusive Golden Gift 2023 tips and Rosehill race selections will be published below leading-up to the Golden Gift Race Day.
- To Win: #13 Betta Being Single ($9.50 at time of publish) – BET NOW
Tough race for punters with plenty on debut, most maidens, and not much form to consider in the lucrative 2YOs showdown. Going for a touch of value with Betta Being Single from a top stable. The Waterhouse/Bott-trained Better Than Ready filly is nicely-bred and has her second start after going down the barest of margins on debut at Kensington. Drops weight, extra 100m should suit and Rachel King is riding very well. Out to atone after going down as the beaten favourite last time and can make amends.
Golden Gift Results
The Golden Gift race results provide the full finishing order of all the two-year-old runners, the winning margin and time, the starting odds the horses in the field jumped at as well as where the favourite placed.
Notable Golden Gift winners include the inaugural champion Yankee Rose (2015), fellow filly Dame Giselle (2019), and Sejardan (2021).
