Ladbrokes Tip: The Kevin Hayes Stakes can serve as a lead-up for some fillies into the Group 1 Australian Guineas
The Kevin Hayes Stakes is a Group 3 sprint race run over 1200m for three-year-old fillies each February on C.F. Orr Stakes Day.
The set weights plus penalties event offers $200,000 in prize money and is one of the support acts on the Caulfield race card dominated by the Group 1 C.F. Orr Stakes (1400m).
First run in 1984, the Kevin Hayes Stakes has held Group 3 status since 2014 and plenty of nice fillies have won the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival showdown including the subsequent ill-fated 2010 Australian Racehorse of the Year Typhoon Tracy (2009).
The latest edition of the Kevin Hayes Stakes ran on Saturday February 12, 2022 on CF Orr Stakes Day and was won by the Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained Argentina ($8.50).

- To Win: #2 Mallory ($7 at time of publish)
Open race and bookies aren’t rating much a danger to Scorched Earth, but a nice price offered on this well-tried Not A Single Doubt filly having her ninth start. She’s only won once – last January’s Group 3 Widden Stakes – but she has been consistent in plenty since including Sydney placings in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (3rd) and Group 2 Tea Rose (2nd). Flight Stakes 10th last start when not really running out a solid mile. This is easier, she’s fresh and can get the job done for another Group victory on the CV.
