Ladbrokes Tip: The Kewney Stakes is a good autumn lead-up into the Vinery Stud Stakes
The A.V. Kewney Stakes is a Group 2 race run at Flemington Racecourse on ‘Super Saturday’ each March during the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival.
Run over 1400m the set weights feature is open only to three-year-old fillies and offers $200,000 in prize money including $120,000 to the Kewney Stakes winner and connections.
It is held at the same meeting as the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) and Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) and makes a nice lead-up to later autumn features in Sydney including the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) in April. Faint Perfume (2010) was the last filly to complete the Kewney Stakes – Vinery Stud Stakes double.
The next edition of the Kewney Stakes takes place on Saturday March 6, 2021.

Kewney Stakes Odds & Betting
Kewney Stakes odds favour fillies with proven winning form at least up to 1200m and experience at Flemington and the famous straight track.
Favourites have a poor recent record for the punters with upsets not uncommon so it is often worth looking further down the Kewney Stakes betting markets for fillies offering value. In 2018 however the equal favourite in Kewney Stakes betting Bella Martini ($5.50) saluted for the punters, followed by a win for the punters in 2020 with Rubisaki ($3).
Fillies coming off good runs in lead-up races like the Typhoon Tracy Stakes and Angus Armanasco Stakes traditionally sit high up the Kewney Stakes betting odds each Super Saturday. The Typhoon Tracy Stakes produced the 2018 winner Bella Martini who improved on a lead-up sixth in the Moonee Valley race as well as the 2019 Kenwey champ Spanish Whisper (2nd).

The Kewney Stakes field attracts a field of classy middle-distance performing fillies.
Many three-year-olds in the line-up come out of an earlier Flemington run in the Group 3 The Vanity (1400m) and the double was last achieved by Solicit (2014) who continued on to run second in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill next start.
The next year Wawail (2015) improved off a third in The Vanity to win the Group 2.
Another telling lead-up into the Kewney Stakes is the Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Blue Diamond Stakes Day and the last filly to take out that race and the Flemington follow-up was Zarita (2008).
Graduates out of the Kewney Stakes field may back-up in the Group 2 Sunline Stakes (1600m) over the Moonee Valley mile on William Reid Stakes night and I Am A Star (2017) was the last to do the double.
Kewney Stakes nominations close the Monday before the race with the final field of acceptances and the barriers out on the Wednesday.

Kewney Stakes Tips
Kewney Stakes tips include looking for previous winners at Flemington and fillies with proven form over similar distance in Melbourne lead-up races especially The Vanity.
Laying the favourite if there is other in-form fillies with the right lead-up form is another good Kewney Stakes betting tip as double figure hopes have saluted many times in the past decade.

Hard to knock the firming favourite here with Personal looking well-rated to win this second-up. The spring’s VRC Oaks champion was good fresh in the Group 3 The Vanity here when second to runaway winner Zou Dancer and will be improving off that getting out over further in a winnable edition of the Kewney.
Kewney Stakes Form Guide
The Kewney Stakes form guide provides punters with all of the important information on the fillies in the field including their barriers, jockeys, trainers and lead-up form. The Vanity held at the track over the same distance earlier in the autumn is the most successful form race to follow into the Group 2 Kewney Stakes in recent years.
The Kewney Stakes form has also stacked up in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) in Sydney in recent years so taking the winner at Flemington to place in the Rosehill classic can prove a good punt.
