Ladbrokes Tip: Roman Consul Stakes runners often go on to run in the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington
The latest edition of the Roman Consul Stakes took place at Rosehill Gardens on Hill Stakes Day, Saturday October 11, 2025 by a field of potential Coolmore Stud Stakes bound sprinters and saw Nathan Doyle’s Capitalist colt Hidden Motive ($18) lead from barrier to box for a brilliant upset.
2025 Roman Consul Stakes Results

The official Roman Consul Stakes 2025 Results & Finishing Order will be published below once the race is run and won on Saturday October 11, 2025.
- 1st: No. 5 Hidden Motive
- 2nd: No. 1 Beadman
- 3rd: No. 8 Marhoona
Hidden Motive caused a boilover in the 2025 Roman Consul Stakes results at Rosehill, surging home to claim the Group 2 sprint at 18/1. Trained by Nathan Doyle and ridden perfectly by Ashley Morgan, Hidden Motive jumped from barrier one and made full use of the inside draw to deliver a career-best performance in the 1200m feature for three-year-olds. The Capitalist colt, out of Secret Agenda, settled just off the speed and peeled through a gap late to outfight Beadman and Marhoona in a tight finish. The win was Doyle’s first at Group 2 level and a major breakthrough for the lightly raced colt, who had shown glimpses of talent but hadn’t yet put it all together on race day. Morgan’s ride was full of confidence, timing the run to perfection and lifting Hidden Motive over the line in 1:09.11 on a Good track.

Roman Consul Stakes Tips
Some Roman Consul Stakes tips include backing the odds-on favourite, checking for top four performers coming off a Golden Rose Stakes run and getting behind the proven Sydney performers.
Another useful tip in preparation for the race is that Roman Consul Stakes winners rarely salute at double-figures so backing the favourite and those under the $10 mark for the win is also a nice betting tip.
That said, Hidden Motive scored a big upset in the 2025 edition as an $18 outsider in betting.
2025 Roman Consul Stakes Tips
Our Ladbrokes’ insider Roman Consul Stakes 2025 betting tips and Group 2 race selections will be detailed below a few days out from the race so stay tuned for the young sprinters to tip in the Coolmore Stud Stakes lead-up this spring.
To Win: No. 8 Marhoona
MARHOONA (4), the reigning Golden Slipper winner, has firmed into odds-on favouritism for the 2025 Roman Consul Stakes and, while she offers little value, she looks the clear standout in this small but quality field. The Snitzel filly from the Michael Freedman stable has already stamped herself as one of the stars of her generation, winning three of her four starts, with her only defeat being a narrow second to Tempted in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes. She atoned in style when claiming the Golden Slipper, defeating the colts including Wodeton, who now ranks among the leading Caulfield Guineas contenders. Resuming this spring, she picked up right where she left off, dominating the Listed Heritage Stakes at Rosehill under 58kg. Back to her favourite track, dropping to 54.5kg, and drawn perfectly with Tommy Berry aboard, Marhoona looks ideally placed stepping up to 1200m. She’s got the class, the fitness, and the tactical speed to control the race from the outset. The benchmark filly of her crop — beautifully weighted, drawn to perfection, and extremely hard to beat for mine.
